  • .ogg file tag support

    I've been having a heck of a time with my ogg file display.

    Just to confirm, if I use an MP3 file, TAGARTIST and TAGTITLE work fine.

    I've tried rescanning the winamp library and all the tag info is displayed in the library as well as file info. I noticed that when I look at the file info in winamp, my sample MP3 file list the tag as both ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags, the ogg files don't say they are any particular format. See attached

    I have also tried about every combo I can think of in RRconfig with the tag display stuff and no luck, including just using file names.

    Other info
    Latest version of RR
    Winamp v 5.24
    Half of my oggs were ripped with CD N Go and the other half with Winamp with the ogg plugin.

    Tags on files different than MP3 are only loaded if they're in the Winamp Library AND if you load it THROUGH the winamp library support (by going through the -- Artist/Album/Genres -- options on top of the file browser.

      You know Guino, I've seen you say this before, and for the life of me, it never quite sunk in until now. And it works!

      So basically, if I go to the file browser and pick "...Artist" at the top of the folder list and then chose my music, it is formated exactly like I have it in the RR.ini with "%ARTIST% - %TITLE%"

      You rock, sorry I made you answer this again, I just didn't get it.

        Ok, so I have it loading "%ARTIST% - %TITLE%" and all looks good.... until I restart RR, hibernate or reload the skin, then it reverts back to just title.

          Guino: Please nod if I have this correct. I have recently been tackling trying to get my ogg tags from my flac files to show up in RR. What I hear you say is that these will not show (even though I have mediainfo.dll in the RR dir) unless I naviage to my music using the winamp library support at the top of the list (Artist/Album/Genres). If I navigate to my files by scrolling past those items (Artist/Album/Genres) in the list and instead pick the album by directory then the tags I have on those flacs will not show. Do I have that correct?

            That should be correct. When you just browse the list as presented, you're just doing a file/folder browsing. By using the top three choices, you are browsing by the winamp's libary, hence the reason you can see the Tags as you specified in the settings.

              There's support to display tags for files when browsing the directories/files -- you'd have to turn that on in RR.INI/RRConfig:

              showid3browse=true
              id3browseformat=%artist% - %title%

              You have to also be sure you have use ID3 tag setup as well.

              Regarding OGG tags, the latest versions of RR should read them directly -- the same with FLAC files (the main requirement is that they have valid tag info).

              If you're having trouble displaying info of some OGG files in RR, send me a PM so I can get a sample file from you for testing.

                Thanks for your response. I'll check my [showid3browse] setting as I don't know what it is set at. My flac are all ogg tagged (correct tag format for flac files) so I'll see if I can't get that working once I check the [showid3browse]. Thanks again.

                    I just realized we are likely talking about two different things. I am trying to get my tags to show up in my skin. They show when I load mp3s but not when I load flac.

                      First, just a bit of clarification (you may already know that): Tags can be displayed on the FILE BROWSER, on the PLAYLIST or on BOTH. The information I provided was meant to show tags on the FILE BROWSER (since you started by asking about browsing by artist, genre and so on). Once the song is loaded into the playlist, settings for the display of tags are independent from the display of tags on the file browser. The simplest thing for you to ensure tags are displayed in the PLAYLIST and FILE BROWSER is to turn everything on. This can be done by opening RRConfig, goiing into Music->Page 1 then selecting Use ID3 Tag: Mix V2 with V1, then CHECK Show ID3 Playlist and Show ID3 Browse -- then make sure .FLAC is an extension in the audio files box.

                      Now, having the above settings in place, the only reasons why tags would show for MP3 and not for FLAC are:
                      -Older version of RR (Not the case)
                      -Bad/No Tags on the FLAC files

                      Since you have a newer version of RR, and think your tags are correct, but they're still not showing, please PM me so you can send me a sample FLAC file for testing -- the last case I had of doing the same, the user had ID3 tags on FLAC filles (which should NOT be done) as well as he correct FLAC tags (Vorbis Comment format) -- I did end up adding support to RR to filter out this mess (but this fix hasn't been released yet -- it was added after the December release).

                        Interesting that having ID3 and ogg tags would mess it up. I'll check that though I don't think it is the case. If my files look good I'll send you something. Thanks again.

                          I have found that some of my flacs show tags and others don't. Its a mystery to me but it must be that some have mp3tags AND ogg tags. I used a program called mp3tag assistant. It seems to tell me that my problem flacs do not have any other tags but ogg. I am stumped. Anyone have a suggestion of a program that may help me sluth out this issue?
