Native "GPS Gas Price Finder" functionality in RoadRunner preview

    - Available in the last RR official release (9-5-06) -

Please do not confuse with GPSGAS plugin written by: lostreception

    IMPORTANT!
Per agreement with lostreception I had to rename the skin and some of the skin commands. Anybody who downloaded previous release please checks your skins.

I'm using it for a few days in my car and its working fine, decided to share with the community. Will welcome all suggestions, requests and comments.

GPS Gas takes your lon. and lat. from GPS Receiver and calculates to the nearest zip code based on that data (or you can input your zip code manually by clicking on “Postal Code label”). Using zip code it gets list of the gas stations with cheapest gas (Unleaded, Plus, Premium and Diesel) prices for that area from http://autos.msn.com/ website (internet connection required).

    Current Functionality
    1. Shows prices for Unleaded, Plus, Premium as Diesel (if available)
    2. Displays surface distance to each gas station (GPS Receiver must be connected).
    3. Use GPS Receiver or/and enter Zip code manually.
    4. Display location of the gas station on the map (MapPoint only).
    5. Can display up to 12 gas stations.
    6. Will suport other countries if i'll find where (website) to get data.
    7. A lot faster than using plugin.

    Installation Instructions
    1. Unzip file
    2. Backup (rename) you esisting rr.exe
    3. Drop new rr.exe and "Gas" folder in the root of RoarRunner.
    4. Copy content of the "skin" folder to your skin folder.
    5. Add button with the "GASPRICEFINDER" command to any of your RR skins.

    1. Get latest RoadRunner from http://www.rrdownloads.net/
    2. Download Gas Prices Files from http://www.rrdownloads.net/ , unzip it to the root of the RoadRunner.
    3. Download sample skin here
    4. Add button with the "GASPRICEFINDER" command to any of your RR skins.

If you are using MapPoint and call "GASPRICEFINDER" from any of the MapPoint skins GPS Gas data will automatically refresh then the Zip Code changes. To enable or disable auto refresh functionality enter “gpsgasautorefresh=true” or “gpsgasautorefresh=false” to the rr.ini

Just a quick skin for BMV2.

    or enter Zip code manually

    Configurations:
gasfinderautorefresh (=true or =false) -auto refresh gas price data based on the location when Zip code changes when called from MapPoint skin

gasfindersortby (=0 sort by unleaded, =1 sort by plus, =2 sort by premium, =3 sort by diesel, =4 sort by distance)

    Skin Commands:

    BUTTONS:
    gaspricefinder -load gas_pricefinder.skin
gaszip -enter Zip Code manually (numosk)
gasrefresh -manually refresh gas price data
gas_#_showlocation ( # from 0 to 11) -show location of the gas station on then MapPoint skin (MapPoint must be installd to use this functionality)

    LABELS:
    gaszip -show gas finder zip
gasfiledate -show date and time of last refresh
gas_#_distance (# from 0 to 11) -show surface distance between current gps coordinate to gas station gps coordinate
gas_#_name (# from 0 to 11) -show brand of gas
gas_#_address (# from 0 to 11) -show gas station street address
gas_#_address2 (# from 0 to 11) -show gas station city, state and zip code
gas_#_fulladdress (# from 0 to 11) -show gas station full address
gas_#_unleaded (# from 0 to 11) -show price for unleaded
gas_#_plus (# from 0 to 11) -show price for plus
gas_#_premium (# from 0 to 11) -show price for premium
gas_#_diesel (# from 0 to 11) -show price for diesel
gas_#_lon (# from 0 to 11) -show gas station GPS coordinates (Lon.)
gas_#_lat (# from 0 to 11) -show gas station GPS coordinates (Lat.)

    INDICARORS:
gas_#_icon (# from 0 to 11) -show image for gas brand

    - Available in the last RR official release (9-5-06) -

Your readme.txt is pretty devoid of instructions. A little more instruction would be better. Where does the "GAS" folder belong. My screen doesn't have any of the gas station icons, so I guess I got it in the wrong place.

        Also, I have a suggestion,

The scrolling test is pretty cool, but VERY DISTRACTING. Perhaps a non scrolling text, but several lines so that the complete address is seen at once, would be better. I am not sure how hard that would be, but it certainly looks to work pretty well.

Cool, that cleared up somethings. BUT, I am entering my ZIP (testing on the laptop before I put it on the carputer) and it tells me my diustance is "78xx.xx"

That might be a little to far for me to go for some gas

Did I do something wrong, or perhaps there is some sort of calculation mistake.

Very nice job, works great here. Is there an easy easy way to scale this for a 800x600 resolution besides creating a new skin file for it? On mine seems like the bottom few lines are cut off.

Can you check the addresses for the stations? what is the real distance?
I just want to know if it just calculation issue.

Oh… just remembered, the distance calculation works only with GPS connected I calculate distance between current location (longitude and latitude) and gas station location (longitude and latitude). If GPS is not connected I don’t have any way to know current location.
