  • Road Runner Installer and Updater (** Out Dated **)

    *************************************************************************

This thread is now outdated, please check the stickies for the latest Road Runner Installer.

    *************************************************************************

TO ENSURE YOU HAVE A CLEAN & UP-TO-DATE FILE, ONLY DOWNLOAD YOUR INSTALLER & UPDATER FROM THE LINKS IN THIS POST!!! The files should be RR_Install.exe and RR_Updater.zip

If you get a virus warning, turn off Advanced Heuristics in your AV program.
Search the RoadRunner forum for "RoadRunner Virus" if you need more info.

    A note on version dates.
The Installer/Updater have 12/13/2007 as the version date because that is the last modified date/time of the RoadRunner executable. I use the last modified date for the installer/updater as it won't change like lastaccessed/lastcreated when dealing with the webservers, Windows, etc. This will hold true for all future versions as well. The file details used are what I have for the executable from the RoadRunnerBinary.zip (even though the link "title" on his site has another date). Maybe that's the best way to put it... My installer and updater only work with the latest RoadRunnerBinary.zip available from Guino's Site.

Since the RoadRunner installer and updater haven't been taken care of in a while I spoke with Guino about it, and after getting the go-ahead, I made a new installer and new updater for RoadRunner.
NOTE!!! I DID NOT WRITE/CREATE ROAD RUNNER. That credit goes to Guino.

    * Many Thanks go out to the participants in the Mirror's for the Road Runner Installer and Updater: *

(seems a few have fallen off from hosting, so this list may not be current. If I've missed your name/server let me know and I'll update.)

The stats shown are for 1 mirror, so multiply that times the number of mirrors above for the total Transfer Stats.

THE UPDATER: (Updated as of: 08 March 2008)
The updater which comes prepackaged with the installer is also available for download by itself. It will pull the RR installation location from the registry, or ask you for the installation location. If it doesn't find your installation location in the registry and asks you for the location, once you point the updater at the installation location, the updater will now store that in the registry for future usage. It then compares the dates of your installation and the latest release and if your version is older, it downloads and installs the latest version. It WILL NOT overwrite your ExecTBL.ini and KeyTbl.ini files. ENSURE!!! that you place/extract this in your RR folder. The updater ncludes the check for RR.exe and RoadRunner.exe. When updating, if the new version has "RoadRunner.exe" the "RR.exe" file will be delete, so that you will be running the newer version. When updating, make sure your scripts/shortcuts and all else reflect this change.

Current Updater Download Link: REMOVED as was Out Dated

(for those who have downloaded the installation package already, this is an updated RR_Updater, so please download this and extract it in your RR installation folder. It adds a default installation folder selection dialog for those who don't have the RR installation key in their registry. Should fix the errors encountered by the non-english setups as mentioned below and it WILL NOT overwrite your ExecTBL.ini and KeyTBL.ini files).

If your updater isn't extracting the new version, drop ( 7za.exe ) a file extractor into your Road Runner folder and then re-run the Updater (this file is included with the updater package).

NOTE: There is now only ONE version, it is has a larger GUI so it's useful for both normal and touchscreen monitor usage. This is a rewrite of the program, so please let me know if you encounter any issues.

      Thanks for your work.

Comment: I'm not sure if it's the installer or RRConfig, but there's a fixed "Program files" instead a variable like %Program files%. It's an extra config work for non english users.

      And this error:

          And this error:

What is the filename of your RoadRunner archive? Is it RR.EXE or something else?
That error is from the RR_Updater, not the RR_Installer. There are no fixed file loctions, they are all variable. The file location shown is just the file location of the RR_Updater.exe file. It's looking for the RR.EXE to determine the currently installed version.

/EDIT should be fixed now with the new RR_Updater file

Guino will be adding the files to his site, but I figured I'd post the links to the files on my site as well, and once Guino has the files on his site, I'll add those links here as well.

The installer will be updated with each new binary and released. The updater will be able to download the new binaries soon after they are released. The installer comes prepackaged with the 9/5/06 version and the BMV2 skin. The weather icons are also now in the correct location.

If ANYONE has any comments or suggestions... post away...
Good job man. Why don’t you talk to Guino to integrate some of your code in to RR itself? It would be useful for people who have RR already installed. It could work something like this:

            1. When user launches RR it would check if internet connection is available.
            2. Connect to rrdownloads.net and compare installed rr.exe with the rr.exe on the network.
            3. If the executables are different if could prompt the user “The new RoadRunner version is available, do you want to install the update?”
            4. If user clicks yes, just download and replace rr.exe automatically.
            5. Restart rr.exe and you done.

We could even have a special skin for that to choose what additional files we want to download.

that would be very cool. I would be concerned though about what files are all included in an installer or updater, there are some files that i allways delete from the RR updates so they dont overwrite my own, like KeyTBL.ini and ExecTBL.ini

The Installer will install all files as if extracting the new binary archive, the updater WILL NOT overwrite/install the KeyTbL.ini and ExecTBL.ini files.

@ EVERYONE, the Installer package and the Updater have been updated.
Fixed the issue for program location for non-english users by giving a dialog box for RR installation folder location

1st Post updated once more. Wheew... lol Hopefully everything is straight now... Please read entire first post. Make updates/changes as needed. If you downloaded the updater and it was just one file and not an archive to extract, please download the file mentioned in the description of the updater. All future downloads should be good to go. Thanks for your patience as this is a first for me

Made one small change to the RR_Updater.exe. New version is 1.0.0.10. If you have to tell the Updater where your RR installation is because it's not in the registry, it will now write that location into the registry for future usage. The installer has also been updated with the new updater.

Cool stuff. I think integrating with RR itself would be nice but I would rather have it be a manual process where you go to the config page (for example) and click on UPDATE and see if there is an update. I don't need any more process slowing down my logon process!! I use a VIA board!

                            Thanks for the code.
