  • Some clarity on variables being sent to flash objects...

I'll go ahead and say i've asked this a few times n a few different ways but i'm still unclear as to how this works and if there's anything that can be done about it. As i understand it all labels are sent to all flash movies in a given skin file with the exception of CUSTOMDL, CUSTOMPB and CUSTOMPL. These three commands are only sent to the first flash object in a skin. I'm in the process of goin through the source code tryin to gather an understanding as to why this has to be... as well as tryin to figure out a solution. The way i see it (in limited scope) there are a few ways to go about this.

    1. add a tag.. similar to "solid" that would tell RR to ignore sending these variables to that object (working on that now)
    2. standardize these 3 commands so that they can be used just like any other commands that send flash variables (probably the harder way, potentially impossible lol )
    3. maybe other methods i'm just not thinking of.

I'm not really askin (again) for someone to change this, i'm just looking for insight on how i should approach the problem as well as a bit more guidance as to why its made like that to begin with. Anybody that really wants to customize a flash skin should be interested in this problem because as i see it its the only reason you cant.

    1.Should not be that hard
2.The problem here is I use a flag to prevent resending CUSTOMDL without any changes. If you made multiple flags it could work, but it's just messy.

      Sonicxtacy02,

Just curious, what kind of customizations did you have in mind? Another solution is to build a list that can be customized via .txt file or RR. You could change colors, fonts, maybe even functionality if you devoted some time to it.

all i really have in mind is to be able to have a flash object on top of another flash object in a skin. For instance in freedom i'd like to place a flash "info" button on top of the gamma button (that i never use). i have this done on the menu skin but on the audio player and browser adding the same infobutton.swf in the same place makes the browser/playlist quit displaying.

        btw wb man!

If you make sure your flash object is BELLOW the main one in the .skin file, you should not have any issues with the playlist..

i know guino but this isnt possible with a 100% flash skin (such as freedom). With no .swi's available the only way to edit anything on the skin is to create flash objects on top of the main swf file. putting the "addon" .swfs below the main .swf means the addon's are not shown.

I see, you can either make it so Flash objects are placed in the screen in the order you've placed them in the .skin (using .zorder) or bring the CF definition back to clip flash objects.
