  • Web control Plugin idea...

Was doing some thinking.. and thought, maybe it would be handy for rr to run a simple webserver.. so you can then control rr from any websupporting device.. you would connect to the car pc.. and control rr from a webpage, if your running an ipaq it would be very nice, as the touchscreen would be nice. I have far to many things on going at the moment.. but just wondering if anyone wants to take this on.

Guino -- just fyi this is an architecture that Xlobby had taken on for the HTPC arena.... Similar concept, but more for home/htpc usage. Idea would be you have a HTPC as a front-end to your TV/HTPC..... Then could use an iPaq, or Tablet, Touchpad to control the input of the HTPC (client server arrangement). Just more an fyi.

I think it would be nice to be able to use PHP scripting to execute RR commands. So you can use an apache webserver with PHP to control your RR from another device. Maybe PHP is able to use COM and connect to RR.

        holy shiznezz Skull!!!

I may be off topic with this idea but i'm thinking that would open RR even more - as it currently is an open-source. This would introduce a whole new area such as using RR as a home appliance rather than using a standard computer. Think of the possibilities...

Sounds like a great idea, especially as more and more phones are fully web enabled now a days.

Pretty sure you can use COM objects from PHP and from ASP, so it's as easy as making the web pages and sending the commands and/or displaying the info from RR. If the pages are simple and small enough you could even use just a regular cell phone to control it.

Like the idea of this, have started to write a plugin to allow controlling of RR via a web browser. Will keep you guys posted, may not be able to release anything till the middle of next week due to work etc though.
