  • road runner not loading anymore, just hangs.

    hi guys,
was trying to put some new skins today...
the logo of the skin wasnt working properly, it was suggested i uninstall flash and reinstall it so i did...

now road runner loads up and at the loading screen where it says starting winamp, it hangs. (not responding). it makes the windows error noise, and no error message though. Also the task bar dissapears.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled flash/roadrunner/winamp several times but to no avail.

can anyone tell me whats going on or atleast how to get an error message?

    cheers,

    Nav

how are you installing flash? Depending on what browser you use it will install a different version of flash. Use IE to install. Firefox uses its own flash install so you can have ver 9 installed under IE and ver8 under Firefox. I think there is a stand alone install also.

If its not flash, check that winamp isnt hung or multiple instances already started, this will hand RR also.

thanks for ur reply liquid smoke. ill double check the winamp issue but i dont think this is the case.

the pc in question is not connected to the net, i did a google search for a "adobe flash download" and downloaded the file (version 9). the computer in question can't be connected to the net..i've never even opened ie on it let alone got firefox.

how should i go about this? I downloaded it from my home computers onto USB and installed it on the carputer.

      cheers,

You can download flash on another machine and install it on the carpc.. there is a standalone download you can use -- check the FAQs.. I still don't understand why some machines just freeze when no flash is intalled -- it should merely just run without any flash elements, but I guess that is a M$ thing for you.

i actually tried and when installing it goes "unable to locate ur plugins directory so will install into the following folder... (/system32/macromed/) however it may not work correctly ..." (vague message, cant remember exactly off my head)

ill check the FAQ if it says some different place to install it..

          thanks for ur reply,

            Hi Nav2k!

I had the same issue you have... unfortunately the only thing that worked for me, was to reinstall Windows, even deleting RR and reinstalling it didn't help...

            Regards,

            Tobias

              thanks a lot Tobias.
Yup i have reinstalled it and its working fine...however i find the trouble occurs with a particular skin (and then i reinstall windows)
so im just going to avoid that skin from now on.

              cheers for your help,

you guys really shouldn't have to reinstall windows for a flash issue. seems like severe overkill. Nor should a skin require you to have to repeat the process.

I just started having this issue too...I am rather new to RR and similar though...

I installed RR, tried loading it with default settings, and did exactly the same as OP. I then installed winamp, still the same. I installed flash 9, same, unisntalled 9, installed 8, same...just sits there and uses 80-90% cpu

I downloaded and installed 8 from here:
                  http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowled...fm?id=tn_14266

Before I got the machine I set this up on, I tested RR in a VM to get the idea of how it works, and didnt have this problem...I also uninstalled, deleted the folder, rebooted, reinstalled, used all default, and still got this problem (beep w/ no error message and nothing in event viewer, then hangs). I even tried a different skin, and it does change the loading screen, but still freezes when it says loading winamp (which does start up)

                      same here, installeed uninstalled..

whats going on.. only other option is to try another frontend..(i love RR but its not worth a Windows reinstall)

Just my $0.02, but I have doubts that it's a windows problem, or a Road Runner problem.

A problem I have encountered is with Adobe products and their install/remove software. Both Adobe and Symantec (Norton Anti-virus) leave behind a good many things after telling windows to remove the product. It's almost impossible to go "back" a version. I experienced this when trying to install Adobe Acrobat Pro V6, over the top of Adobe Acrobat Reader V7.

The only solution I know is to remove the Adobe (or Symantec product), then using a program (or manually) edit the Windows registry to clean the system of all traces.

If, as I have assumed, the issue is not with folks who have a V9 flash, then install a V8 flash, my apology for wasting bandwidth.

Do a search for a stand alone version of flash. If you try to install the browser plugin from Adobe it won't work. Here is the one I used

Download Flash Player 9 (Complete Standalone Installer) - free download of the full Flash Player installer
                          System always under construction

mine wasnt based on the flash plug in, but have the same problem (i was messing about with stuff)

anyway i re-installed it as it wasnt working and it still didnt work

got a fresh XP install and should be fine now
