  • Video problems

Well this isanother problem I encountered.

When I try to play a video that has a name with non english character "Greek"
The video does not play. If I rename the file and use English characters then it playes OK. This is only for the video player. The music player plays everything and does not depend on the characters used in the name of the file.
The road is long but we are getting there.

does it even display the file names correctly ?? I have not done any work yet as to support foreign fonts. I do intend to get to it some time..

Another question though: does media player classic play the files correctly if you open it outside MPC ?

I do believe I'll have to add some support for that to work..

      1. Yes the files names are shown correctly because I changed the fonts used in the skin.

      2. MP classic plays the files even with the Greek names.

The video player loads all files/playlist using VB code, and VB has very poor support for foreign fonts.. I'll make sure to look into this wit a little more time... the audio player works because it basically lets winamp handle the file names/titles etc..

Did you try this yet after I added support for "foreign" fonts ??

Let me know, I simply used the code I had on my page for my other project (to display greek, chinese etc). Haven't tested myself, that's why I ask...

I tried the new version but the situation is still the same.
While the audio player plays all songs, even if the contain names with Greek characters, the video player refuses to play eanything that contains Greek characters in the name. If the same file is renamed using English characters then it plays fine.

I'd like to help you, but you'll have to help me first:

1-Give me your Windows Reginal Settings (Standards, Location and Language for Non-Unicode settings)
2-Make me a "list of file names as you have (the way that they don't play) -- Probably a good idea to create zero-sized files with those names and zip them up so I can get them..
3-Tell me which font (or send me a font) that I can use to view the greek characters with.
4-Zip up and send me your .skin files...

I need the above to perform testing and tweaking... I want to solve your problem while allowing many other (potential) users of different countries to use the software propperly This should not be too hard to fix...

                Let me know,
                Guino.

I just tried out the new version

The same problem still exists when the video file names are in Greek

What problem are you referring to ? displaying the characters or being able to open the files with wird characters ?

The files won't open (yet) because MPC doesn't support foreign charsets on playlists.. it won't load them nor save them.. that's why I'm thinking of writing simple video player to use with RR. It woudn't have as many features as MPC but it would definitely support those foreign characters...

See images from my machine right now:

Well Guino, the problem is as follows:
                          1. The file does not load if it has Greek characters in the files name.
                          2. If the file name contains Greek characters it shows up OK.
                          3. If I run MPC as a standalone program (without RR) and select the file containing Greek characters then it plays OK (This same file does not play from within RR).
The road is long but we are getting there.

Yeah.. I know about that .. try this: open MPC (outside RR) and click View->Playlist. Now drag a few files to your playlist (with greek chars) then right click on the playlist's bar and select "save...". Save it as a m3u file (the simplest one). Close MPC and re-open it. Click to open plailist (or file/open) and select the playlist you made.. you will see that MPC will not open the files.. if you look at your playlist file you'll see that all greek characters have been removed from it..

What is going on is that RR is working fine, but MPC is screwing up.. that's why I have decided to add a built-in video player to RR. so that this is not going to happen anymore and so that MPC is an option.

Tolisn, please try the built in video player for your "greek" named files.. I've tested it here and it seems to work well (unlike MPC). Just make sure you don't disable Internationalization and use the Built In Player.. also you should either use "System" or "Greek" for the locale setting in RR.
