  • Nosecam

I've recently bought a great new webcam that does 640x480 @ 30fps & also does infrared night vision for a very reasonable 8 delivered. I've been experimenting with writing some software for a nose cam & have managed to mix text with the video. I'd like to mix in the time, speed, gps coords & perhaps some other funky stuff.

The tricky part was working out how to do this without paying for some ActiveX control.

Hopefully I'll get something released soon, provided it's workable on the carpc & doesn't chew too much cpu to process all this video.

    Anyone interested in this?

Here's a pre-alpha preview. All it does is put the time on screen. It's only enabled for the preview right now & probably won't be on the recorded copy yet.

This is the one I got http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...7847&rd=1&rd=1 . The pic in the advert is misleading. It shows the LED's lighting up bright white, but in fact they are infra-red led's.

Ok update, I've enabled time & date merged onto the recorded video & it works great but only when recording uncompressed RGB frames. As soon as I turn on compression, it drops my modifications to the video stream Uncompressed RGB is about 8meg/sec for [email protected]

I'll experiment some more to see why its dropping my video modifications.

Apologies, I'll get back on to this soon. I've got all the hard stuff done so I can't see it taking too much more effort to sort out.

Looking forward to this. Record the idiot drivers round town and take the footage to the police!

I was thinking about doing this as well, only differnece is, I already paid for 'the activeX control' Had it from a previous project, as well as a nice video capture card wtih 3 inputs (front, rear, and interior cameras anyone?)

With the activex control, its easy peasy to throw up text.. Might go dig out my camera and have soem fun with this idea now =]

edit: got everythign setup and a quick test app written, and unfortunatly the only way to switch between which of the 3 video inputs is being used is by opening up the cards lil control panel and going through like 3 screens. Im going to see if theres a way to change it from a program though. If anyone has any ideas, Id love to hear them. The card is an Osprey 100

                      Just a quick clarification:
You're viewing multiple cameras through a video card, not through a USB system, right?

I've been trying to figure out how to get multiple USB cameras running on my system, but with very little luck.

I've been thinking about a forward looking camera myself. The function I would like to see is a constant recording of the videostream with a save button that saves the last say 30 secs (configurable) to a file. Very useful if you come across a situation you have to document, for example a traffic accident. A text overlay with time, date, position and speed would be very useful in an app like this.
