  • Modifying Iguidance 3.0

You know it was going to happen. I started this to help other people modify and embed iGuidance 3.0 into Road Runner. This first post will be updated as people post more information including links.

    Updated (7-19-06)
Disable NONAG screen for RR - see Page#1 post #2
Using skinbedder version 2 - see Page #1 post #3
Pictures of iGuidanceUMPC version keyboard layouts - see Page #1 post #12

Current tools you need, again this list will be updated.
Reshacker - to edit iGuidance.exe and iGuidanceUMPC.exe (each one has its own bmp's).

First, so far I found that most of the buttons in the all the menus are bmp's.
That means you can make your own, in case you dont like the candy look.

No information about editing the keyboard yet.
Here is what I found so far, since I just got the new version of iGuidance today. My install has iGuidance.exe and iGuidanceUMPC.exe

List of bmp's for changing gps arrows.
    176 red bold
    177 yellow bold
    178 green bold
    179 white bold

    180 red
    181 yellow
    182 green
    183 white

    184 yellow 3d bold sharp
    186 green 3d bold sharp
    188 red 3d bold sharp
    190 white 3d bold sharp

    185 green 3d
    187 red 3d
    189 yellow 3d
    191 white 3d

    192 yellow 2d bold sharp
    194 green 2d bold sharp
    196 red 2d bold sharp
    198 white 2d bold sharp

    193 green 2d
    195 red 2d
    197 yellow 2d
    199 white 2d

Reason there are more arrows is because what I think is two versions of iGuidance (iGuidance.exe and iGuidanceUMPC.exe). Currently I do not know why there is a white arrow, (anyone can chime in on this).

NO NAG - disable the warning when iGuidance 3.0 starts. Both work in Road Runner config.

      embed with skinbedder.
      Using skinbedder v2
I had to use autoit along with skinbedder to get this to work.

Command I used for autoit. (Updated 7-19)
      ;
      ; AutoIt Version: 3.0
      ;

      ;iGuidance
      FileChangeDir(@ScriptDir)
      Run("C:\Program Files\iNav\iGuidance\iGuidanceUMPC.exe nowarning", "C:\Program Files\iNav\iGuidance")
      ;Opt("WinTitleMatchMode", 3)
      ;WinWaitActive("Warning")
      ;Send("{ENTER}")

In Skinbedder v2, I changed this:
      [Programs]
      P0=C:\Program Files\Road Runner\Control\ig3.exe

(ig3.exe is what I named the exe for autoit)

the umpc version has also been stated as the carPC version on the iNav website, it seems to be a magnified version for easy use in the carPC environment. I think they really created it for the new Ultra Mobile PC segment, which is suppose to be the next gen PDA's

Yep! The UMPC version, everything is bigger, buttons, fonts, icons, roads, poi's, everything is much bigger. UMPC version is what I now run in the car on zenarc 7 inch screen. It is much easier to read and use in the car.

John, what are you embedding v3 into? I found that the UMPC version has way too large buttons screens !!!

I am embedding it into Road Runner. The iGuidanceUMPC ver buttons are much better on a 7inch screen IMO. Run ig3 no umpc. So far the only thing I dont like is the layout of the OSK.

                    Ig3 Kbd?

This looks fantastic -- fixes all that needed modified before. Now the big ?, did they happen to address the tiny keyboard buttons or no?

                    Thx for the great pics.....!!!!

Thanks for posting this! I literally just finished getting this working before I left on a long trip. IG3 is nice also.

I managed to get it running in a window which works somewhat independently of RR. With IG2.1.3 it was nested inside the window of RR so that it wouldn't spill out. Now, everytime I go back to the External GPS page in RR, it tries to load up another instance of IG although one is already running. Of course the COM port is already being used by the already running copy of IG, so the new instance of IG doesn't work. This forces me to close the new IG window everytime. It's quite annoying when you're driving to constantly have to close the second IG window that opens. Did I do something wrong? I don't remember this problem with the old IG. Seems like it's just launching multiple copies of the same IG3.EXE made from AutoIT.

                          Thanks again!!!!!!!

I did precisely what the instructions said.

I used AutoIT to make a script compile into an EXE named IG3.EXE. Then I run Skinbedder. Then in RRConfig, I set the External GPS application to be SKINbedder.exe (not the actual iGuidance EXE --- this step wasn't mentioned in the instructions above). Also, I'm using the UMPC version, not the regular version.
