  • Interactive *Flash* Traffic Maps Plugin!

10/3/07 - This plugin no longer works due to traffic.com changing their website. No new version is planned at this time.

Ok this is flash traffic maps for EVERY city listed on traffic.com

    download here:
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WTT2TOJN

ok my skin is now released and there is a new version there of the traffic maps which is better IMO. Now you don't have to click twice to get the indident info. If the info is too long to fit into the box, it AUTOSCROLLS!!!
No menu for changing cities anymore.. i scrapped the idea bc it causes too many problems.

    http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=99343

    ***INSTRUCTIONS***

Unzip and copy all files to a folder named traffic inside roadrunner directory ( i.e. c:\program files\road runner\traffic)

In your traffic.skin file add the flash file and also add /DISCARDABLE.

    F,115,115,685,415,"..\..\traffic\traffic.swf"
    /DISCARDABLE

Not all cities have traffic flow segments...this is not my fault =) what you see on traffic.com is what you get.

There are a few things to keep in mind:

    - Refreshing the map has a pause for 8 seconds for it to download the latest traffic data.
    - If you change city names the flash pauses for 12 seconds. If this is not enough time for the download to complete just exit the screen and go back.
    - There are some issues with the refresh map where the incident description will flash continuously, if this happens just exit the skin and go back. This is why you should add the /DISCARDABLE line.

That's all. There won't be any upcoming changes as I am pretty happy with the results.

    ***NOTE***
This will NOT work outside of RR ( web browser or in flash player) because it sends RUN commands to RR.

    *** UPDATES ***

Setup your local storage settings for flash here:

    http://www.macromedia.com/support/do...manager03.html

Check the checkbox which says "Allow third-party Flash Content to store data on your computer"

    2/23/07

    - the incident icon responds to a mouse click event instead of roll over
    - changing cities removes previous city incidents
    - loading progress bar when refreshing and changing cities.

    2/19/07

    - Lot of changes to simplify installation. All files are now in one folder.
    - Instructions have changed, you no longer need a "RUN" command in the skin file or in ExecTBL.ini to run the traffic updater.exe. This is done within the flash file now.
    - Added a city select menu.
    - Added refresh map button
    - Removed the need for "traffic.txt". City list and its now hardcoded.
    - Dropped fps from 10 to 7.

    2/10/07

    - Fixed zooming issue with the map moving to the top left. (I should send a copy to them too so they can fix it on their website)
    - Changed icon sizes for roads and incidents to accomodate touch screens.
    - Incident description fonts bigger.
    - Changed the zoom buttons to some better looking ones.
    - Fixed readme and install instructions

You're welcome. Beats a browser traffic map anyday =)

I just noticed some of the cities might be mispelled in the traffic.ini If the downloader doesn't work for you, go to traffic.com and check your city map and look at the URL folder name.

This is what has to match for the downloader to grab the proper files.

It goes in the skin where you load the SWF. So whichever skin you have the:

          F,115,115,685,415,"traffic.swf"

          in, add the /DISCARDABLE
          in that skin as well.

          Cheers

Just as another line in the text as:
            /, F, x, y, w, h, Movie name
            F01,6,68,782,448,"Traffic.swf"
            /DISCARDABLE

Rather than a parameter for another line?
            Thanks...Paul

Works great, can you make it parameterized so that I can pick the city?
              Thanks...Paul

I know I can pick which city I want, but I will likely want to change the selection on the fly.

Working great here, Thanks. Is there a way to change the zoom buttons to match a specific skin?

Another way will be to use the local live SDK and have a local .HTML file that loads only the necessary info (so you don't have to use the browser) I start this project long time ago but never finished (has I already stated in sonics traffic plugin thread)

There may be a way to pull the flash maps from traffic.com or maptuit (just the same as embeding pandora)

                        or

Have the info from traffic.com filter by windows live local (that is the way I do it but i was thinking on using the live SDK so the web doesn't have any of that garbage, just the info that you want)

Yeah i think an autoit script should do the job, but don't look at me =) I'm sure someone else can easily figure out how.

Ok for you guys that tryed in TS, how are you bringing the info of the accident/const. up? (last time I tryed the map in traffic.com site you have to hover on top to bring the deatil and that is impossible with a TS **at least with the TS software ver that I have**)
