  • Skin Guru's - Help needed

    Hello all,

    I am currently developing a skin that uses gestures to emulate the flicking motion to switch screens, just like on today's smart phones. This part is done and my skin is almost complete, but I want to make an additional feature that I think would be cool.

    So my question is if it is possible to have the gesture be a variable?

    For instance instead of
    "NEXT",E

    I could put

    "NEXT",$GEST_NEXT$

    This is what I have done so far, but I haven't been successfull.

    In Gesture.ini
    "ESWIPE",$GEST_ESWIPE$
    "WSWIPE","$GEST_WSWIPE$
    "NEXT",$GEST_NEXT$
    "PREV",$GEST_PREV$

    Then in ExecTBL.ini
    "ACTIVATEAREA1","SETVAR;GEST_ESWIPE;E||SETVAR;WSWI PE;W||SETVAR;GEST_NEXT;= ||SETVAR;GEST_PREV;= "
    "ACTIVATEAREA2","SETVAR;GEST_ESWIPE;= ||SETVAR;WSWIPE;= ||SETVAR;GEST_NEXT;E||SETVAR;GEST_PREV;W"

    And in the skin i have two areas for gestures, and they are outlined by a label to activate two commands:
    L,0,100,800,400,,,,,"EXEC;ACTIVATEAREA1||= "
    L,0,500,800,100,,,,,"EXEC;ACTIVATEAREA2||= "

    So basically i want to have the gestures dynamically change based on which area of the screen is activated. Can this be done?

    Sounds like you want to switch the COMMAND executed by the same action.. to do this you should do the following:

    Same label codes should work, so just change:

    Gesture.ini:
    "$GEST_E$",E
    "$GEST_W$",W

    Then in ExecTBL.ini
    "ACTIVATEAREA1","SETVAR;GEST_E;ESWIPE||SETVAR;GEST _W;WSWIPE"
    "ACTIVATEAREA2","SETVAR;GEST_E;NEXT||SETVAR;GEST_W ;PREV"

    The only thing you have to worry is to set $GEST_E$ and $GEST_W$ on skin.ini or through ONSKINSTART before anything works (otherwise the variables will be empty and won't execute anything).

      oh ok. I didn't know the commands could be variables, just the actions. Is that universal for all the ini files? That tidbit could be useful in the future.

      Thanks Guino

        Yes, anywhere you can enter a command code you can enter a variable and/or command/variable mix. Similarly, anywhere you can enter a label code, you can also use variables.

          Could have gave an example too G...

          Button commnd: "SETVAR;Pressed;2||MainButton$Pressed$"

          Will try to Execute the translated command: "MainButton2"

          This is the way the more advanced skins work, makes things harder to follow, but usually allows the skin author to use less screens by just using a lot of properly placed RR varibles.
