  • Ride Runner as a Home Media Center? Skin needed!

    Hey guys,

I want to use Ride Runner as a home media center frontend as from my use of it in the car, I think it will do this job quite well.

I was wondering (this will be a long shot) if anyone out there has tried this? If so, are there any skins 1920x1080 in size? Big res I know, but I thought I would ask.

    Cheers,
    Braiden.

Yes, there are several users that use RR for their HTPC. The ones that do use it, most likely are using a customized skin, that they have made and choose not to share with the commmunity. I think that there are maybe 2 skins that are sized bigger for use such as this.

Thankyou for that information. Do you know where I might find those skins that are available?

@braidy - have you looked into other programs like xbmc which have been already developed and supported for home use? I know even the default skin for xbmc is fairly touchscreen friendly and provides loads of useful functionality out of the box.

Braidy, I'm using DigitalFX 4.0 at a resolution of 1280x768 for my home media center. It looks and works great at that resolution. You can change the resolution to whatever you want by editing the general.ini file in the skin. I don't have the files in front of me, but it's the second set of resolution entries in the general.ini that you need the change.

yes, i am using rr as htpc fe (well my sister's family does) and so far, i gotta say it's the best fe for htpc as well as it is for carpc. i've used xmbc, wow, it's an eye-popping, jaw-breaking, visually stunning and works a quiet well. You gotta see it to believe, but it lacks flexibility and that is a huge drawback. Internal player doesn't support dxva, launching ext. app is such a pain, chew up alot of memory(lagging when running with other graphic intense proggy).... xbmc is growing and i have no doubt it will be one of the best htpc fe pretty soon if not already.

Here's the link i posted, not perfect but i am satisfied, if you wanna see how it looks on full hd, go ahead.. Soon or later, i am gonna finish the skin... I can use whatever player i want with RR, kmplayer, potplayer,mcp-hd, etc.....

posted a screen shot of my sister's house using this skin... I am using it too in my tiny apartment..

just checked your post and subscribed brandensin - very nice...

i have a 15" touchscreen at home i've been meaning to use. My idea is to have a dual video card - showing the same image on my 15" TS and on my 46" LCD. I can then use the 15" as my remote control - LOL - very cool! Look forward to playing with the skin - uh the htpc skin that is

CAN YOU PROVIDE A LINK TO DOWNLOAD POTPLAYER?

                      THANKS

For a HTPC, look into XBMC. It's setup specifically for that. The project started on the original XBox, but has sense expanded well beyond that.

MediaPortal is another excellent Front End for an HTPC.

i've tried many FEs for my htpc. i even tried rr for a bit. it came down to gbpvr and mp. mp offers many more skins (i particularly like xfactor, http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/x-...in-r247-68714/, and the lcars interfaces).

for my system, at least, gbpvr has been more stable (mp crashed every couple of days, necessitating a reboot), and gbpvr supports the mediamvp. ymmv.
                            regards,

Also (if you have the resources) give Windows 7 Media Center a try. It does pretty much everything you need it to, and with the Media Browser plug-in it does even more.
