  • buttons ontop of indicators??

Hopefully somebody can help me out with this one.

I have a button that has an indicator inside of it (think box with smaller box inside). When i click the button it works, but the indicator dosent seem to work right, it just flashes once and button and indicator goes back to the off state, even though the indicator should be on.

Now this works fine in the BAV2 skin, its being used on the mute button. If you click it you'll see a red dot start to blink on and off constantly. Not sure how the blinking is being done either.

    any ideas?

It should work fine. Try switching the order of the button and the indicator.

As for the blinking, just add ":b" to your Indicator code. So for "MASTERMUTE", it would be "MASTERMUTE:b".

well the blinking works, it just kind of blinks too fast for my taste, and for the indicator that its on it seems like a bit much to have it blink as its not something that needs attention like that. Is there a way to control how fast it blinks?

Unfortunately, I don't think there is.

Actually, I remember having a similar problem. I was trying for a non-blinking indicator, too but couldn't get it to show consistently so I ended up having to make it blink. Maybe this is a bug in RR.

Couldn't you accomplish this by simply adding a label to your skin. ANd making the indicator solid red in the _ON skin .Jpg of whatever skin you are using?

The problem is the the indicators are graphics like the buttons and when the button is drawn the indicator will be erased (if over the button).. blinking forces RR to redraw the indicator... But this is a good example of how you can use the image transparency.. if you make the area of the indicator PINK (on the ON/OFF/DOWN images), then RR will not mess with that area when drawing the button and the indicator should stay whatever it is. You may need an empty image to draw the first state of the button..

Beginner skinner trying to understand Guino's explanation - so if I want the indicator on a button to maintain it's state without having the button redrawing wipe out the indicator, I draw a "pink" area on the button that I want the indicator to go, in the image file? Literally make the area pink? Any specific shade? Sorry if this is remedial.

Thanks for the clarification. So if this pink area is where the indicator should be, how do I show the indicator (a green box/light in my case) on the image file? Won't the down/off/on images show what's underneath rr instead of my green box?

If there are any skins that demonstrate this, I'm happy to take a look on my own to see how its done.

this is also a complex trick... you should have a EMPTY image with the initial state of the indicator drawn in it. Then the ON/OFF/DOWN images have to have the area for the indicator in PINK (any shape), then you have to load the image onto the indicator manually when pressing the buttons (unless it's an indicator that loads images like weather etc).. As I said the problem is that indicators and buttons share the same image layers.
