  • Suggestion about posting skins:

How about having a sticky that only contains completed skins so people have one spot to look for RR skins? I think it'd make choosing a skin alot easier. No comments, only each skin author posting screenshots of and links to his or her work.

Good idea, saves people alot of searching. Only problem might be keeping it up to date.

That is a good idea. But we would have to come up with some standardization to determine what is a completed skin - because there is actually no such thing. All skins are works in progress. Constantly being changed and updated. So, I'd say we would have to come up with a basic idea of what a skin should be at minimum in order to be stickied. For instance, at least Audio.skin, Mappoint.skin, external_gps.skin, Menu.skin, audio_browser.skin, video.skin etc.

A request I would like to make to all skinners, is please use some very descriptive titles when posting either your skins or partial skins. Try to name the skin and use a name that fits so people know what they are looking at. I'm getting confused between all the "New skin" and "my first skin" titles. Oh, and keep skinning! I haven't seen a bad one yet...

i was just about to say the same thing.
The way its setup in the Frodo Section is a good example. The Skin forum should only be for finished skins, all works in progress should reside in the open RR forum or to make things a little easier, rename the current SKIN form to SKIN WORKSHOP where you talk about skinning, get help with how to skin, post and talk about your skin, beta test your skin etc, and make a new subforum and only post new threads here with complete skins, no discussions.

Also, speaking of skins, ill take this time to say RR really needs a default skin.
There needs to be a single download that contains everything to get a basic setup up and running. I know someone said earlier that there are no 100% complete skins, but there should be enough skins with core features to make a default skin. I know the first time i tried to get RR up and running, i just got frustrated and gave up.

the install shield version has everything you need to set it up the first time... then you can just download the binary updates in future (althout the installer comes with an autoupdate tool!!!)

I do agree with having a single section for JUST skins to download and NO comments or "thanks" from people... Just descriptions from the creator of that skin...
It will avoid people having to skim through countless threads before finding skins that are more or less complete (meaning actual working 'buttons') and not just images of what the skin should look like...
RoadRunner has been running great for me and I can't complain... but yea, organizing the RR sections would be an added plus...

I don't know what the hold up is all about ...
Yeah.. I thought someone was working on this.

How much bandwidth do you think is used up by skin downloads? I ask because I recently upgraded my site to make room for one of my skins and I don't use the extra bandwidth for anything else. Problem is I don't have time to locate/contact all the skinners, let alone come up with the skin "format" for downloading.

                      Here are the stats:

                      > 1000 MB Web Space
                      > 20 GB Bandwidth
                      > 500 MB File Size
                      > CGI, PHP, Perl and MySQL
                      > FTP Access

If someone would be willing to put this together, I could donate this.. at least as a temp relief.

UK_MP3CAR has actually donated web-space on one of his servers for RR files (he was also one of those working on the skin site)... so if there's a need, I can upload any skin that needs web-space.. but I just can't manage all the skins+updates by myself...

It's always nice to know there's an option...
