  • Why does one need fonts with a skin?

I've been messing with photoshop lately and customizing some RR skins to my liking, adding buttons, labels, sliders, and what not. I started to wonder, how exactly are fonts related to completed skins? Once the skins are created, you shouldn't need fonts as the skins are all jpegs. The only way I would see one needing any fonts outside of photoshop along with a completed skin is for labels. Is this right?

Just trying to figure all this stuff out. Thanks!

That's what I was thinking. Thanks for the confirmation. btw, what happens if the font is missing? Does it default to another font?

sometimes it will default to another font, other times you will get a bunch of illegal characters (like boxes or something)

also, another good reason to allways use the fonts that come with a skin (unless they are horrible and you know how to properly change them) is the text box for the used font is likely set to the width of the text string. Different fonts have different weights even at teh same font size, so Arial 14pt may take up less space than another font at 14pt and cause cliping in the skin.
Then a random user sees this and post that all his labels or time and date are cutoff in this skin he downloaded and can someone fix it.
