  • flash question, is it possible to get an indicator to control flash?

    I've got a pop up flash box that (eventually) will scroll thru various labels when its hidden button is pressed. as of now, it stays invisible until the button or the "home" key is pressed. What i'd like to eventually have is rr's indicators controlling whether or not the box pops up. For example, if i get a text message , the box would pop up notifying me its there and the number it came from. So can any of you flash gurus think of a way to have rr's indicator control this? I've attached a screenie and can attach the .swi if needed.

      you would need to setind on or off, flash could float ontop of the skin transparent monitoring that indicator.. as soon as it shows ON then it could then do what you wanted.. for a length of time then go transparent again (disappear)

      I think ;-)

        i tried using the setind to off but my question is how would i script my .swi so that it would monitor that indicator? I have the flash running controlled by an invisible button and the "home" and "end" keys, but i want the process automated.

          humm... I couldn't seem to get it to work. I know that some indicators act basically like labels and output a value to flash. For example, the ONLINE indicator will show ON/OFF in flash even though there is no labels for "ONLINE". I don't know which ones work/don't work but this might be a good feature to have for all indicators and i'm sure guino could probably add it if you ask him.

          If you are receiving the value for your phoco indicator, the coding in Swish is simple. You will want to first set the variable to NULL or "".

          Code:
          onLoad(){
               phocoIndicator = "NULL";
          }
          then when RR updates the indicator (label?), you will now be in control of it's state and can trigger actions based on it's state using a looping sprite. Create a new sprite and loop the timeline so that it checks phocoIndicator for changes like so:

          Code:
          onFrame (2) {
              if (_root.phocoIndicator=="NULL") {
                  prevFrameAndPlay();
              } else {
                  ___________________________  <===YOUR ACTIONS GO HERE
                  _root.phocoIndicator="NULL";
                  prevFrameAndPlay();
              }
          }

            i tried this using the online indicator and it didnt work. The popup just moves into view when rr is started regardless of the online indicators status. Here's what i got

            Scene script
            Code:
            onLoad () {
                _root.onlineIndicator = "NULL";
            }
            Sprite script
            Code:
            onFrame (2) {
                if (_root.onlineIndicator=="NULL") {
                    prevFrameAndPlay();
                } else {
                    gotoSceneAndPlay("Scene_1",1);
                    _root.onlineIndicator="NULL";
                    prevFrameAndPlay();
                }
            }
            I've got it real basic for the time being. All i want to confirm at this point is the control of the movie. BTW, is it possible to loop just the sprite and not the entire timeline. Looping the timeline makes the pop up just move in and out. I tried looping the sprite with a while 1 condition but the script became unresponsive.

            And another question, how do you confirm rr is returning the value to flash? i tried setting up a temp button to run a trace but i dunno how to read the trace outside of swish. Can i trace to a message box or something?
