    Update - 16th November 2006

I got the config screen working. Its on the apps page. You can now change between three colour frames (more to come)! If you download the latest file

Minimal061116 This has all three framesets included in the directory called Colours. A few minor placement changes have also been made, and more Background images included. For future releases, I'll trim this lot down, as the download is up at 27MB now !

Any comments, things you like, things you hate will all be gratefully received.

    cheers

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi everyone, here is my latest skin called Minimal, which can be downloaded from here

    Minimal061115

    Minimal skin
I have tried to create a semi transparent skin, that you can use with backgrounds of your own choosing. The Backgrounds you want MUST be 800 x x600 resolution, and copied into the Backgrounds directory. You can set the display to change the background on a timed basis, either sequentially or randomly. I have tried to provide Radioshark, XM and Sirius skins, but without access to these technologies, I can't test the skins ! If anyone can confirm that they work, or not, I will try and fix any problems with them.

I am working on different coloured wire frames that in effect will be "new skins" although part of the Minimal family. I also intend to make some solid backgrounds. Included with this release are red, blue and grey framesets.

    Installation
Download the Minimal skin, which is a rar file, and unpack it to your skins directory. To get the skin working you will need to install a new font which you will find in the Fonts folder, install screenlock (if its not already installed), install the CD-Rip plugin (if its not already installed), and add a few entries to rr.ini.

    Fonts
The M Character I use for the Menu button comes from the Greek Diner font which you will find in the Fonts folder. This needs to be copied over to your Windows Font directory for it to work properly, then you can delete this folder.

    Screenlock
Screenlock is a plug in tool that provides you with as it says, a way to lock your screen. When installed it does this whenever your system hibernates, protecting your system if your car is stolen. To install screenlock, you need to download the plugin, (from here). Instructions for installationof this are included in the zip that you will download.

    RR.ini
Next you need to make sure that picspath is set to point to your picture directory. I have found that you need to use the 8.3 format to get this working, so

    C:\Road Runner\Skins\Minimal\Backgrounds\

    becomes

    C:\Roadru~1\skins\Minimal\Backgr~1\

You can also add a Minimal skin specific entry to rr.ini which is

    ButtonPos=1

This value will be changed by the skin depending on the location of the button bar.

    RRConfig
Now fire up RRConfig, and set your skin to the Minimal Directory, and you should be good to go.

    Minimal Functions
The Minimal skin was an attempt to bring customisation to the masses. All the text is implemented using labels, so they can be changed by the user. Background Images are changed on a timed basis, either sequentially or randomly. The backgrounds are selected from the image files within the Backgrounds directory. I have included a few to show you the idea. A file called Minimal.ini is in the skin directory. The ini file has two options to change. A debug flag, and a seq/random flag. It will also show you index of the last background image used.

To change the background image, click on the Time/Date button. This button has a secondary function. If you click and hold the button for two seconds, then let go, the button bar will move to the bottom of the screen, or back to the top, if its at the bottom.

The Top right button that show the track time and remaining track time is also a button to activate the visualisation. Click and Hold this button for two seconds brings up the exit menu.

    Requests ?

If anyone has Radioshark, XM or Sirius technology and can test the skin, please post the results/problems here and I will try and fix them.

    Thanks for looking

    Coloured Framesets

Here are the Coloured Framesets for the Minimal Skin

    Red Frame

    Blue Frame

    Grey Frame

To install a frameset, unpack the two directories into the Minimal
skin directory. This will overwrite the current two directories,
    ButtonB and ButtonT.

Fire up the skin, and press and hold the Time / Date Button for two
seconds. This will change the colour over, and swap the buttons, do it again to move the buttons back.

Hi Enforcer, your right, I attached them, but from the website ! I knew they had to come from the website, just took the wrong option !

I just noticed the buttons for the top button menu are set a little high ! the #BUTY# value should be set to 063 in YPos.txt. I have uploaded the right files now, and I missed a ButtonB Directory out of the Red skin, which has also been corrected.

              cheers

This is the transparent gif file I have used, if its of any use. The problem seems to be the load time for each screen, first time around only. Whenever you move the buttons or change the background, I have to call RELOADSKIN, which blows out the memory. If you try and rebuild the screens without the reload, some objects (s) and labels with scrolling text, keep the old image as their background, which screws it up.

Still it gives a good effect overall, and makes customisation easier for the general community.

Once I have the skins to my liking, i will work on other frames, and button styles. I have some aluminium, vinyl and wood buttons that I have been playing with, but I need to finish other bits off first. . . .

Got the config screen working, so now all three colour framesets can be changed by clicking the button on the apps\config screen. The framesets are now stored in the Colours directory.

Needs a new download I'm afraid ! see the first post.

                      Cheers KPJUK

hey man, this is really cool... I did a skin a while ago for centafuse that had the appearance of transparent buttons over a background image, but cf don't really support transparencies, it was an illusion & the graphics were built into each & every button

there were tons of guys who wanted to be able to replace the background image with there own, but of course it wasn't possible without redoing each & every psd.... this is really cool, I bet many guys will like this, great job

                          Cheers TurboCAD6,

its good to get encouragement when new concepts come out. I called the skin Minimal because I wanted to have minimal interruption for the background images. That way the look can be changed with little work. I have been trying to get transparent images working for an age, and a friend suggested to try the way newspapers do shading colours. I am really pleased with the way its come out.
