  • Nav port save problem

Ok here we go again I was working on my Aopen Mini PC and I had to take it apart when I reinstalled everything I happen to change the USB port that my BU-353 Weather-proof GPS Receiver is on.I then changed it back.

I restart the PC then go into Mappoint and set to proper com port 4 that it has always been on then I open streetdeck and go to the nav setting it's defaulted back to the text file i click on detect com port it finds it fine on com 4 then when I go to save it I get an error "An invalid argument was encountered"

now this has happened to me before and one day it fixed itself but I live in fear of ever disconnecting the GPS USB device.

    Please Help

Arent you supposed to change the port in the nav settings in SD? thats all I do and it works fine. I have the same antenna as you and have switched the port a few times and all you have to do each time is cheange it in the nav settings menu.

..I think this is what the previous poster is referring to. I always just set the com port in SD as well (not in mappoint...didn't even know you could do that), and it works fine.

Thats the whole point of this post I had the com port set in sd then it got messed up when I changed usb ports to fix a problem with the pc.

When I restarted sd it no longer saw the port so I go into the nav settings detect the port it finds it then I go to save the setting and I get the above posted error.

I mentioned mappoint to bring out the fact that the com port and gps are working fine.

Try loading streetdeck using the -ALLCOMM parameter.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?

-ALLCOMM parameter does nothing and now when I go to the nav setting to save as comm 4 it has the same error as in firs post.

I was able to fix the problem by removing Streetdeck completely.

                1. After removing StreetDeck I made sure the comm port was working and the GPS.

                2. I reinstalled StreetDeck when setting it up I picked the USB to Serial on the proper comm port.

It can ony be done this way if I try to save any of the nav settings after the initial install I will still get the "An invalid argument was encountered"

I found the cause of the problem while searching the forums for another topic I found posts relating to the fact if you have Tiny XP whenever you change the comm port physically StreetDeck will show "An invalid argument was encountered" when you go to save the port changes or any nav settingsI hope this helps anyone who may run into this issue.

Thanks for identifying the root cause but do you still need to re-install SD to resolve the issue?

Yes you need to remove SD and then when you reinstall it you can set the correct comm port to begin with so it will recognize the gps.

This will not fix any speech problems tiny XP usally has the speech modual removed.

You do not need to remove SD. You just need to redo the initial setup wizard. This can be done two ways. Add the -Wizard command to the shortcut of streetdeck.exe, or probably more easy, while streetdeck is open, on the top right, click the help button; then click the wizard button and select navigation.
