    What OS are you running?

Some striped down versions don't have every module like Tiny XP.

I have xp home sp2. I had it working before my carputer crashed. So I had to make a new local profile when logging in. I moved all file over to the new local profile. So ever since reinstalling streetdeck, just only had problems with that voice part of the program. every thing else work fine

        Voice Input Error

        I get the same error.

I've NEVER gotten this to work on my Infill G4. I've tried it in 1.1.0.0 and 1.1.0.6.

I get "Voice Interface Error!" "There was an error launching the microphone training wizard. Please consult the program log for more details"

I dunno. I got the G4 from mp3car.com, loaded my mp3 collection on it, wired it up, and turned it on. Oh yeah, I also had to install the driver for the Elmscan5.

What "speech components"? Is this an option to turn on in XP somewhere? Is this something I need to download -- if so what is the URL?

sorry, don't know about that one...but i just downloaded and took a look at the 68MB file (SpeechSDK51.exe) and it seems to be just a straight ahead install.

Question: in your control panel right now, do you have a 'speech' aplet and does it have a training wizard? If so - you could train from there. If not - you need the above install.

Well the confusing part is that FAQ link takes you to a microsoft link that says:

                    Important File Download Details
                    • If you want to download sample code, documentation, SAPI, and the U.S. English Speech engines for development purposes, download the Speech SDK 5.1 file (SpeechSDK51.exe).
                    • If you want to use the Japanese and Simplified Chinese engines for development purposes, download the Speech SDK 5.1 Language Pack file (SpeechSDK51LangPack.exe) in addition to the Speech SDK 5.1 file.
                    • If you want to redistribute the Speech API and/or the Speech engines to integrate and ship as a part of your product, download the Speech 5.1 SDK Redistributables file (SpeechSDK51MSM.exe).
                    • If you want to get only the Mike and Mary voices redistributable for Windows XP, download Mike and Mary redistributables (Sp5TTIntXP.exe).
                    • If you only want the documentation, download the Documentation file (sapi.chm).

                    Files in This Download

The links in this section correspond to separate files available in this download. Download the files most appropriate for you.

                    msttss22L.exe
                    2.0 MB
                    sapi.chm
                    2.3 MB
                    Sp5TTIntXP.exe
                    3.5 MB
                    SpeechSDK51.exe
                    68.0 MB
                    SpeechSDK51LangPack.exe
                    81.5 MB
                    speechsdk51msm.exe
                    131.5 MB
So the 68MB file (SpeechSDK51.exe) you downloaded says "If you want to download sample code, documentation, SAPI, and the U.S. English Speech engines for development purposes".

I don't understand why this isn't just setup and working on the G4 that comes with SD mandatory?!

                    *sigh*

like i said: no idea about the G4 and how it comes configured. SAPI is what you want; the 68MB file should work. Another way to get it: install MS Office (if you happen to have a license for it).

What a coincidence. I had to send my G4 in for some work. Got it back recently with a new hdd and just finished installing software tonight.

My "first" G4 had the speech module work--no problem. Tonight, as I was setting it up again, I got exactly the same error. I jumped on here to see if I could find out what the deal is.

I'll download and install SpeechSDK51.exe as well. Not sure what changed between the first default install and this most recent version, but clearly something didn't get installed this time around. If this works, it should be a sticky...

okay I just installed the 68MB SDK and ran the training.

                          Now what?!

"Settings > Voice Input" says to run the Voice Interface Tool from the tools directory (which BTW isn't obvious it's in the "Start Menu > Street Deck > Tools" MENU OPTION. I looked in the C:\StreetDeck DIRECTORY and C:\Program Files\ and E:\ DIRECTORIES first!).

So anyways the only item in Tools is to "edit" voice commands. That has "add, delete, save, exit" buttons -- nothing to turn on anything. Then THAT tool says, "The Street Deck voice interface only becomes active after the toggle voice mode function is executed."

I looked at the SD command line swtches and only see options to turn voice recognition off (-NoVoice).

so - train the mic via control panel, and to activate voice input in SD, hit the space bar.

                              Seriously?!

Does that mean I need to have a keyboard handy at all times, take my hands off the wheel and eyes off the road to find and hit the spacebar, every time I want to say a word to recognize? Isn't that less safe than just using the touch-screen or a gesture?

Why isn't this on all the time, with some key trigger word like Mac OSX or any other sane speech recognition product uses... "COMPUTER PAUSE SONG", "COMPUTER PLAY SONG", or "STREETDECK FAST FORWARD" or "COMMAND STOP" or any number of other triggers to distinguish regular dialog from voice recognition commands.
