  • Vista Navigation dosen't work in 1.1.1.0

I recently purchased streetdeck, and Iím unable to get Navigation to function at all. I am using an Asus R2Hv, which runs Windows Vista. Streetdeck was the first application installed on a clean install of Vista. The log pasted and attached illustrates me opening streetdeck, selecting navigation, it failing, then closing streetdeck. I have searched every thread here based on the errors in the logs and am unable to troubleshoot/fix this problem myself. Here is the log:

You're having the same problem I'm having. Most folks have been able to remedy it with an uninstall/reinstall of Mappoint. I unfortunately have not been able to get Nav to work on Vista no matter what I try. I can't get my system to recognize the SD Mappoint plugin under Vista.

    Try the following:
    1. Make sure UAC is disabled.
    2. Enable the Administrator account of your pc.
    3. Login as Administrator
    4. Open Mappoint
    5. Go to Tools - Addins
    6. Make sure the checkbox for Streetdeck Mappoint is checked.
    7. Hit Ok, and if you don't get an error message, you should be good to go.

Log out and log back in as your other account and you should be set.

Unfortunately this did not work for me. But it worked for others.

OMG... That actually worked!!! thanks a bunch!!!

FYI, in order to enable the Administrator account on Vista Home Premium, you need to enter "net user administrator /active" at the cmd prompt to enable the account.

I can't even believe it. It works for everyone but me! How ironic. Well I'm glad I could help you. I just wish I knew why it doesn't work for me. For me, I can't get the checkbox to stay checked, no matter what I do. Chuck says it means that the pc won't register the addin for some reason. But I'm doing exactly the steps above, and it won't work.

Did you try to remove/readd the .dll in the COM addins window while logged in as administrator? It should be pointing to c:\program files\streetdeck\mappointaddin.dll

Yes. I swear I tried everything short of re-writing the code in Windows Vista.

it absolutely amazes me that one would even have to go through these steps to get the NAV functioning in Vista. Any advice/reply Chuck?

I would recommend searching the forum as this topic has been discussed in detail in a current bug report. Chuck has responded in there a few times.

Yeah, I've talked to Chuck extensively about it. There's not much else he can do without actually getting his hands on my pc. It works fine for him too.

unbelievable... first you delete my bug report, stating that this issue is not a bug. I contact support, and they asked me to create this thread, rather than offering any assistance or even a link to the other bug report. I fixed the issue, without the assistance of an "engineer" from mp3car.com. Now you tell me I should have seen the fix on someone else's bug report? I thought it wasn't a bug?!! I know you are a volunteer here, but if this is the kind of assistance one can expect of you; it's hugely disappointing. My $.02

Your 'bug report' was written in a way that resembled a support issue, not a bug report. Therefore it came across as asking for support, not reporting a bug.

I think I'll just leave the StreetDeck forums and let it be for a while since no one seems to appreciate or understand how much effort keeping up with EVERY INDIVIDUAL user in the StreetDeck forums, their bugs, each release, and EVERY COMPLAINT takes.

                      Enjoy!

Jan, your efforts are nobel and appreciated. It is not fair that 'taking care of the forum' is on your shoulders almost exclusively.

Streetdeck, the company, needs to take some action, though, if they care about this community here on this forum. It is AMAZING how disorganized everything appears to end users. It really does, at times, look like the company has no idea what it is doing and poor you and Chuck are just scrambling and doing the best you can.

I've been here since the early beta days, have always been supportive and professional(with an occasional rant here or there) but it is getting harder and harder to want to continue using this product because of this.

                        Happy Holidays,

You don't think that Navigation not functioning on a fresh install if Vista is a bug? Regardless of how it was written. I DO understand how trying forums can be at times, as I am certainly not new to them; though I am to this one. I am an IT Consultant and deal with support issues on a daily basis.

Well said! In my travels as an IT Consultant, I have seen many different forms of "support". I must say, mp3car is seeming to be in a league of their when it comes to procedure and disorganization. I call the support line during their support hours, which are an absolute joke being 11am - 3pm; only to be told that I am calling outside of the business hours. I mean who do u guys think you are offering only half a business day support? I then submit a support ticket, which was replied to 2 days later, after the automated response mail stated someone would get back to me in 1 day. All this only to be told to make a post on what is seemingly a community forum.

Jan, I apologize if I offended you in any way. In all honesty, I am looking for a mp3car.com EMPLOYEE to b1tch at and solve my issues. I don't need to feel guilty for offending someone that is supporting the forums on their own free will. Thank you for your efforts elsewhere.

Now, now, let's not get hasty. We NEED you here Jan. You're our only real channel into the mp3car staff's world. Try not to let what tek said get to you... he's new and still has to learn the "lay of the land."

@Tek - your complaints are warranted, but should not be directed AT Jan... direct them THROUGH her. She would be more than happy to get your message to the staff if you ask her nicely and without attacking her directly. She's really just the messenger. She's not even located in the same state as the rest of them.

@Per - I'm with you all the way and agree totally. It's amazing to me that a FREE program (RoadRunner) has 1000x better support for its free product than Streetdeck does for its $200 product... and RoadRunner doesn't even HAVE official support! Streetdeck is a BUSINESS... not just a product. And DISORGANIZATION is the word of day. It certainly appears VERY disorganized.

Jan, the disorganization comment has NOTHING at all to do with you and your efforts, and everything to do with what appears to be a substantial lack of concern on the part of the rest of the staff for most of the issues/concerns/questions/problems that are posted here.

That also is not directed at Chuck, although I think Chuck needs some help. There are a lot of issues with SD, and a lot of promises for SD, that are all still hanging wide open with little to no clue of status available even to those who ask directly. And this is all on top of an ever-growing feature request list that appears impossible to even touch because of everything else that's open. I've been waiting with baited breath and crossed fingers ever since you guys announced the hiring of new developers... I really think that could kick things into a higher gear... but so far, nothing.

I've said this in a more summarized fashion already in another post (a bug post), but I'll repeat in conclusion: I love Streetdeck, especially the POTENTIAL it has to be the greatest front-end. The last thing I want to do is leave Streetdeck for another front-end, but at the same time, for SO many reasons, it's very hard to stay.

Wow, this is WAY far off topic from "Navigation doesn't work in 1.1.1.0"
