  • 2008 and another great year has passed??

    Just want to congradulate the SD team on their great work so far.
    And the painfully slow progress that this project is going at!

    Thank you SD Team for keeping us excited over new developents that are still in development for the last 2 years.
    Specifically:
    - the FM Radio fucntionaliy
    - the BlueTooth functionality
    - and future thanks for SD v2.0 with LIVE Traffic Updates due sometime in 2029.

    Im not being harse. Just realistic. ANd frankly i think everyone is getting a little irrated about all things great SD and soon to be added functionality.

    Yes, im sure the SD team is working hard and doing their best..blahh..blahh.
    BUt come on....FM radio and Bluetooh DO NOT need to be "in development" for this long.

    All the major Car stereo companies have full Blow Nav decks, that do what SD does and more! Even FORD, has a car PC that has working Bluetooth, imaging that!!

    SD is a great concept, execution of the product itself is very good. But if you don't wake up soon, you might as well not wake up at all.

    Here are some suggestions:
    -instead of doing inhouse product testing for 2 years. Why dont you have some of your team do exetensive evaluation for a couple months. THen realease the product for sale. And work out the bugs you missed later.
    At least you will have more feedback form users.
    -im MORE then sure that just about EVERYONE using SD today and planning on using SD in the future, would be more then willing to have working devices, even with some small bugs.

    Oh yea..Happy New Year!!!

    Hilarious, Cannonball. Unfortunately, you can probably hear the echoes bouncing off the walls of the Streetdeck offices...

    I posted a 79 paragraph (give or take 74) complaint letter on the beta testers' forum, almost a week ago, and not one Streetdeck staff member has replied to it or even acknowledged it. It absolutely blows me away, and I'm not easily moved.

      I am guessing most (if not all) of the SD team is at CES... do perhaps they will reply soon.

        I can't believe they would be actually showing anything at CES though.. what do they have to show?

          Sad part about reading this post is I am sure most of the SD & Mp3car workers agree 100%, I have honestly completely written off ever seeing a working blue tooth for SD. I am not a developer by any means and this is why I opted to pay for the software but I cant see Blue tooth taking 2+ years with no completion date in sight. When I heard you need a specific BT dongle from mp3car to get BT working I was thinking "man that stinks..." now I would just be happy if it actually worked.

            For the moment, I'm also writing off Streetdeck... it just seems like the support and development just isn't there. I have just taken a long distance trip with my friend's carputer that I built for him...and it was honestly a nightmare with Streetdeck. It crashed many times unexpectedly while just playing music. Navigation using Mappoint wasn't so great...I brought along a Garmin NUVI just in case...and I'm glad I did.

            While I were at our destination, I decided to switch over to Centrafuse to see how that would work (I had it installed already but an old version that wasn't so great, but updated to 1.46)...it wasn't as much "flash" as Streetdeck, but it did work very nicely. The support is there...they are actively tackling bugs and it seems alot easier for people to develop plugins for...what I like best about Centrafuse is that it had integrated WiFi, Browser, multi-Navigation engine support...and Bluetooth actually works! It is very stable and I'm pretty impressed.

            For now, I'll have to recommend other solutions other than Streetdeck to friends...I really do hope they have an Ace up their sleeve soon...because I really want to believe that Streetdeck is the best.

              Maybe a silly question since I havent really tried (dont use SD), but is there a reason why nobody has embedded phoco or something in StreetDeck with a digital mod?

              If RR can do it, then SD can do it. It would just take a few hours to get it looking right maybe, but if you really want phone support, I dont see why not.

                Because digital mods can't be used while you are moving (unless in test mode), thus making it somewhat pointless to have a "hands free" phone solution that doesn't work when you need it the most.

                  Then perhaps instead of bugging the SD team for giving you bluetooth, you should ask for a digimod override. Each mod would need approval and some unique guid to be hard coded into an update. Then a digimod with that unique code could be used on the move.

                  Or if really anxious, then use testmode, with that autoit script that auto-clicks it, and then the embedded phoco?

                  I know after 2 years I would be considering different routes of accomplishing the same thing until they are ready to release their own official version.

                    Thats not true! Adding the following code in your digimod (c#, but also possible in built in language) makes it "safe":
                    Code:
                    {
                          module = app.CreateModule("ModuleName");
                          module.IsSafe += new IModuleEvents_IsSafeEventHandler(module_IsSafe);
                    }

                    bool module_IsSafe()
                    {
                          return true;
                    }
                    Thats it...

                      Well if that is true, then it shouldnt be too hard to get a phoco thing going, and get your bluetooth support within a week.

                        Except for the fact that PhoCo sucks if you aren't using one of the very few phones it truly supports. There's a reason why its production has been completely shut down.

                          I thought Centrafuse uses phoco and liscenses it out? If so then shouldnt all these phones work: http://www.fluxmedia.net/compatiblephones.aspx

                            I know, it's still relatively new news... see here:

                            And part of the reason development has ceased is because that list of compatible phones you linked to is bogus. He (the developer) did not test nor get testimonials from users on all those phones. He listed those based on the bluetooth stack that they contain, and that's it. Unfortunately, it came to light over the last couple years that Sony Ericsson phones were the only phone that truly worked exactly the way the PhoCo was advertised to work. I went through months of troubleshooting with the developer (he was very attentive and helpful) to try and get my phone to work, but no luck. We finally gave up. I hope that Centrafuse's forthcoming solution will be worthwhile!

                              At least there is an option if you have a Sony Ericson phone though

                              I guess you guys are back to having to wait for the SD team.... I think/hope they are getting close though for your guys' sake.
