  • One happy camper! With one question?

I feel that I had a bad taste in my mouth about StreetDeck with relating all my problems with my system towards to program. Well, that has all changed with the new mobo. I wanted to post this so others especially new people can appreciate this competely sound program. For months i hated running SD becuase i could never play video, play more than 2 to 3 songs without the program crashing, even driving the whole system to crash and have to reboot. On a normal 30 min drive to work, my computer would crash about 2 to 3 times. I couldn't understand why. After my very indepth research (only possible for having a somewhat boring desk job with open internet policy) i found that the graphics card couldn't sustain the memory resources. Anyway, i bought a new mobo with 945GM chip set. Turned up in the bios the shared memory to 224mb and woooooWeeee! This is like a completely new and different front end. I started with 60 fps and this thing just cruises through each menu. Screens flip very fast, video plays awesome, even the song that comes up in the middle of the screen flips super fast, when you keep skipping tracks. My old system would hang up when skipping too fast and eventually lock up and crash. Since the new MOBO i've yet to have one hang up, crash, program close, or any odd issues. I've come to realize that majority of the issues people report (me included) tend to be hardware related. I can honestly say that i "do hope i get stuck in traffic" because now i will be using the damn system rather than trying to fix it. Running Balls to the Walls is the only way to run!

My one questions: Hopefully someone from streetdeck team can answer is that I set my fps to 100. Will I see any issues at this rate? Should i stay at 60 fps. I know the FAQ section suggested between 45-60 fps, but it is kinda out dated so a fresh answer would be great. I guess it would hurt to try it out, and if I see any weird SD issues, just turn it back to 60.

Do to the fact that you monitor only refreshes at ~60fps, I would imagine that having SD at the higher framerate will not benefit you. It will just tie up more system resources.

Can you confirm that the monitor refreshes at that rate, because i can't find anywhere that it says that. No specs for that monitor say that. Well I will try it at 100 to see if anything occurs, will report back tom. Can anyone else confirm this?

Your Windows display properties will tell you the refresh rate. And standard setting is 60Hz. You probably can change this to 50Hz or maybe also to 75Hz, depending on your screen capabilities. So you won't benefit from 100fps.

For me (not for my pc :-)) also 60fps is little too high, because then all the animations run faster and shorter... looks too stressed for my feeling.

I would not recommend setting anything over 45 fps. The benefits will be limited and although, the frame rate has the lowest priority, it can still tend to slow things down when high CPU intensive tasks are running like route calculation.

The animation speed is actually tied to time. No matter what you set the frame rate to they should always go at the same speed. They will look smoother based on the frame rate because you will see more frames per second and this may give the perception of them going faster, but it should take the same amount of time to fade / move.
