  • Streetdeck 2.0 questions

As a current CF user, I have a couple questions about the new Streetdeck. Currently, I don't use their navigation as it pretty much blows. I do, however, use CoPilot v9 for my navigation:

    Navigation:
What navigation engine will SD be using (if you're allowed to announce this)?

Will you now be able to create a multi-stop itinerary or will it still only use the single destination mode?

If the driver can create a multi-stop itinerary, can locations be added as "waypoints" (such as specific highway intersections) that would be used to create the desired route, but not shown as a stop in the route?

Will you be able to import our own POI's?

Will you have the ability to search for POI's by it's location/city?

I'm assuming it will have different 2d/3d viewing modes. Can you list the ones available?

What routing modes will it have (shortest, quickest, major, etc)?

Will the new version support POI pop-ups to alert the driver of upcoming POI's from selected categories? If so, can the user define the alert distance for the popup? Also, can the driver simply add the alerted POI as a stop in the current route?
    GUI:
In CF, when the user adds an addon program, whether it's a plugin or an embedded application, the GUI allows the user to easily create, reorder or remove unneeded buttons from the main "screens" without requiring editing a skin. Is this possible in SD v2?
    Suggestion:
I'm sure this is more of a plugin than a built-in part of SDv2, but here goes:

In CoPilot, they have a feature called "Live". This Live feature allows the user to add people who can track them, based on the users current location. It also shows the users destination. The added people can go to a website and see where the user is. They can also send messages to the user. The user can then respond with either a multi-choice response (set up by the person "tracking" the user). CoPilot v11 also allows the user to type a return message with either an OSK or with a standard keyboard.

This feature, when it works, is great. Any chance of seeing something like this?

I would love to see those answers as well.

I also have a question to ask. I do not think this is possible within the current SD so I would like to ask if it will be available in SD2.0 Is it possible to pause your current destination? I don't want to suspend but more like pause, if you sort of know where your going and know SD is taking you a way you don't want to follow as of yet, pause the navi when you get to a location where you are now lost you can unpause it and have it continue?

Also how do you stop it from taking you off/on highways?! Almost everytime I am driving on a highway it will have me take an exit only to get right back on the same highway, its extremely annoying to say the least.

      Multi-Stop Itinerary: Yes
Import POIs: Maybe, theres some silly licensing issues here
Search in City: Kinda, find in the map, view location, then you can search around any location in the map
      Map Views: 3D, 2D, 2D North Up
Route TYpes: Shortest, Quickest, Avoid Highways, Prefer Highways
      POI Popups: No

Remapping Shortcuts on the Main Screen: You can already do this in V1, just goto more and press and hold down an option in the list.

      Live Features: No

SD 2 will make it easier to do multi stop routes all allow you to avoid roads. Theres no concept of pause though.

When searching for a destination, ie: city, street, etc... Will Streetdeck 2, "eliminate possibilities", ie: like the current OEM (GM, Ford, Chrysler) softwares do? Meaning when I begin to enter a city and I push the first letter in the city's name, the second letter then can only be so many letters and the program knows this thereby eliminating the known non existent letters???? Hoping....

I find this inputs really make sense !! What Malaki86 explains is what I would expect from a pc based navigation :-)

I also missed a pause function like meth68 described several times!

The importing of my own POI's is a HUGE deal to me. I drive truck for a living and already have over 200 of our regular stops saved as POI's (name, longitude, latitude). After going there the first time and saving it (which I've already done) makes no sense to have to re-enter the address each time. Also, most POI databases don't have categories for truckers (Cat scales, weigh stations, truckstops, etc). I already have these POI's and would like to import them as well.

For the 2D viewing modes in CoPilot, there are a couple of modes that I really like using:
Where Am I - This shows your vehicle centered on the screen that you can zoom in/out on
Next Turn - This shows the route from your current location to your next turn. The screen auto zooms in as you approach the turn
Destination - This shows the route from your current location to your destination. It does the same as the "Next Turn" and auto zooms as you approach the destination.

Meth, I hate that "off the road/on the road" thing too and I don't want the voice commands interupting my favorite song, but doesn't this work as a pause?

Route to your destination, begin navigation, then cancel the route. Then whe you get to an area where you need the help, go back to create route, it goes to recent destinations (if not, you can select it), and your destination should be right there. Select it and go.

Isn't that pretty much what you are asking for?
                  My opinion is my own.

Sounds like a good workaround, I do that often to, but it does take a couple of extra click, taps or voice commands. A true "pause" would be very nice.

My guess would be the same as now. You can use S&T, just not from within SD (as you can with Mappoint now). V2 will not be using Mappoint, no word on what it will be using but I don't they'd go from Mappoint to S&T if they were lookng for improvements.
