  • StreetDeck Software To Be Sold Seperately Soon

I called streetdeck (best way of getting info) and they told me that they would be releasing the software sometime soon, they are getting it to work on windows. The reason they have you only buying this one kit is because it is what they are working on. There are more bugs with other hardware.... They are trying to eventually fix all the bugs for all the software. But as of now their hardware bundle that comes with streetdeck is the most stable while runnign the software.

The only version we will be releasing standalone will be a developer edition. This will give you a license to use the development enviornment on your home PC and one to use in your car.

The developer edition will be aimed at the mp3car community and we are looking at ways of pricing it to make it appealing for that without degrading the value of our complete StreetDeck product. The developer edition wil be an officially unsupported product. Meaning, the only way to get your questions answered will be through the forums. We are not looking to sell StreetDeck software as a standalone software product to your average consumer at this time.

StreetDeck should be easily installable and you should be able to get StreetDeck to work with very little configuration if your computer meets the minimum system requirements, but if you have platform specific issues on a machine that isn't in the list of garunteed components, we won't garuntee that there will ever be a patch for it for the developer edition. We will release some kind of demo that will let you evaluate whether it will work with your hardware. StreetDeck uses Direct3D so you will need a 3D capable card. Intel 915G based graphics chips are good enough.

There will not be a linux version anytime soon or possibly ever. You will need Windows XP.

I saw the demo car at the Intel booth. Looked pretty cool, but I couldn't find anybody to talk to. Somebody was in the car doing a demonstration and I really liked the hand writing recognition for entering an address into the navigation. I guess I was expecting to see mp3Car.com somewhere and so I wasn't exactly sure if this was actually your CES presence or not.

That was it. The license plates read Mp3Car.

I'm an idiot for not noticing the plates. I was hoping to talk to someone, but everyone I was with was in a big hurry to get over to the car audio booths-it was late and we'd been over in the home side all day. I was planning on coming back the next day, but never made it-had to actually meet with some of our suppliers. I hope you didn't have to work so hard that you didn't have a chance to check out Jessica Corbin at the THX booth-she looked good!

                  Fair enough.
Chuck, what if there was another way to run your software in linux, without supporting 2 different OSs?
What if we (linux users) only asked for better compatability with 'wine'?
Wine is making advances with each release in terms of Direct3D compatability, as well as windows library files.
(If you're not familiar with Wine, it's an implementation of windows on linux)
This way you can still develop and support Street Deck for Windows, and at a very small cost to you (fixing and tweaking parts of SD to work with wine) you get a second, albeit smaller audiance, but still, more people to buy the product.

                  Anyhoo, just a thought.

I'm gonna try installing the SD demo in linux one of these days, to see where things stand.
Do you think the Street Deck team would you be interested in this give this a try?

If you report the issues you have, they will be considered, I can't say that they will be fixed without knowing how difficult it will be to fix them.
