  • Any experience with Cipher?

Anyone have experience with how uprev.com's Cipher behaves when used within StreetDeck?

  • #2
I've talked to the Cipher developer a couple times and I am waiting for them to develop an API to get it work with StreetDeck directly. This probably wont happen for some time, but it can probably run just fine as an external application now.

amthar - have you tried automating Cipher with girder so that it can be controlled within StreetDeck (or pop to the front to display)?

I haven't had that much time to play with it yet but the BCM functions are cool: GOC - will there be a way to trigger actions based on events (like speed reaching a certain value - so the car could auto lock doors for example?) Or if you spoke in StreetDeck (e.g. "lights on") then it could trigger the lamp? Or would a plug-in have to be written to do something like this?

If Uprev ever releases Cipher API, then many, many new possibilities will be open, like having program on CarPC (SD?) to act as N2O dual stage controller. In meantime, I have ST gesture shortcut for Cipher: “C:\CAR\Girder\event.exe CipherStart –silent”
Girder on my CarPC is installed in “C:\CAR\Girder\” directory and “CipherStart” is Girder event that uses “Window Exist” command. Let me know if you need copy of my GML file.

To answer your question, no. I don't own Cipher yet, but I want it!

              Dovla,

A snippet of the GML that starts Cipher would be awesome - nothing like cut and paste to save time. I can just import and be good to go!

I didn't know about the silent command line option...

When starting Cipher from SD all I am mostly interested in is start logging ECU parameters and I really hate clicking that OK button in Cipher and resizing sub-windows, so there is more to it than what is in attached file but its not fully completed yet … one of these days.

I don’t know how you are controlling Standby and/or Hibernation but because Cipher will not survive restart you might like to create one more shortcut and put it in SD “Exit” folder so that Cipher closes with SD: “C:\CAR\Girder\event.exe EndCipher –silent”

Very good suggestions. The Exit folder executes the links inside when doing a standby vs a true exit? I presume so.

Will give it a go... thanks for posting!
