  • Picking of the brain...

Howdy all, I've been doing a lot of research lately, and I am seeing a lot of information about in car computer integration services.... I am wondering about StreetDeck, as it appears mysterious and I cannot find any information on it.

From looking at a screenshot, I determined that it looked like it was written in VisualBasic. Is this at all accurate? I am wondering because I am a VB.NET developer by profession, and I would be very curious to see just what made this computer tick, before I bought one. Thank you for your help.

No, not at all, just lots and lots of C++.

I'm sure you could write plugins in VB.bloat, I mean NET . That's what I'm planning!

The only way to directly write plugins will be through vbscript. The scripting engine is intimately tied to the skin developer so you can drag and drop new controls and add script behind them just like in visual studio. If you need something more powerful then vbscript, you can always create a COM object in VB.Net or whatever and load that into the scripting engine for the backend and just use teh dev enviornmetn for creating and responding to the controls.

I am also very intrested in buying a StreetDeck, and i also program in VB, so its really catching my attention. I was reading some threads about disliked about streetdeck, and some people were saying its kinda slow

Lets say i buy a streetdeck, right now.. How do i go about installing it? i dont want to do it myself, is it something i can take to a shop and they can do it easily?
            one more question..
As soon as its installed, it it like plug n play, where i dont have to program stuff?

I don't know what you mean by slow... That could refer to a number of things slow boot time, slow load time, slow runtime...?

Its load time use to be slow. It has been optimized greatly since then and should load in well under 10 seconds with navigation. As long as you have a adequate 3D card it should be faster then any typical 2d application since it doesn't waste processor time for rendering and is written in C++.

If you buy a complete system, the only way to currently get StreetDeck, it will be optimized for top performance.
