  • Trial Expired...what now...?

The last that I heard Streetdeck was supposed to be available for sale separately from the in-dash hardware module sometime in May. I purposely held out starting the trial with the hope that I would be able to buy it before the trial expired.

Of course, its now June and my trial has just expired. I've tested the software extensively on my Tablet PC and can't find any major issues with it in its current state.

I'm baffled as to why the developers still feel that the software is not ready for sale. I have actually paid a lot more money for software that was no way as near as stable as the current StreetDeck release appears to be.

It they are waiting on the GPS dongles, I think many folks would put up without having them until they are ready, as long as the software works like it currently does otherwise.

Waiting on this software is putting a serious kink in my plans to put together and install a Car-PC. I've basically put off buying anything for almost two months, because I'm really only interested in using StreetDeck as the interface.

We are working on the store, getting boxes, a DVD duplicator, getting the registration server up, website updates, getting the GPS dongles. There are a lot of complications trying to do everything we wanted to do the right way and its taking us alot longer then we initially anticipated to get the infrastructure up and running.

We know we are late with our deadline and are working to get something up for sale ASAP... hopefully sometime next week... At a minimum it will be a way to get a code now and get shipped the DVD when they are made.

I would like to purchase software only! Please come up with a price for it! I'm Pretty sure many more people here on mp3car.com are willing to buy software only.

This will help to find other bugs, that are not known yet, like DVD playback...etc ( stuff that not available in the trial version).

As for me a have all the hardware already and software dependencies including MP 2006 and just waiting on a "software only" release of StreetDeck.

I understand that you know better what to do and when, but I think you should give this opportunity to (at least) existing Mp3car.com members.

      This will only help development.

Thanks for the quick reply. Should I just uninstall the current expired version or wait until I can buy a registration key? BTW, if your payment system isn't ready, it only takes 10 minutes to setup a PayPal account. Am I to assume that by "registration server" you mean that the software will need to 'phone home' before it works. .sort of like Windows Product Activation? If so, will I have any problems moving the software from my Tablet to my Car pc once its installed...

        Thanks again,

the software is tied to the hard drive upon which it is installed (I think). It generates a hardware "code" from that device. So if you need to move to a new hard drive, I think you will need to re-register.

I wouldn't have any problems with re-registering. I just need to know that it will be allowed.

When StreetDeck becomes available for purchase, you will get a registration for 1 and only 1 computer. We will not have a mechnism that will allow you to transfer it, so the computer you register is the computer you will have to use.

It will be possible at some great day in the future to transfer a license, but we will not be able to offer this capability initially.

Does the hardware code use more than the just the HD, like WinXP does? I'm worried about that because I think HD's can crash somewhat often in a car... from an accident, off-roading, etc. I would like to be able to replace a $50 HD without spending hundreds on new SD software.

Also, even though we register the software with the computer in the car, will we still be able to have a development environment on another system that won't time out, as we do now? Trying to develop on the computer in the car would be a nightmare.
My setup: Hummer H3, iBase MB899, Intel Core Duo, RR, iGv3, DSATX, Mechatroniks chassis, 41Hz AMP3

The development enviornment doesn't require a registration code to run it. It won't time out. If you want to develop for StreetDeck you don't need to buy anything.

Its tied to only the hard drive. Yes there are reasons why you might need a new reg code. This is why we are working on a way to transfer a license. If you want the software at the initial release though, its something you will have to deal with.

Yes, you can even upgrade the hard drive, you just have the leave the one you registered on in the system though.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any specs on the gps unit which would be bundled with the software.

Its going to be the same Pharos GPS that comes with Streets and Trips. We will probably be releasing a non-GPS version first though since we still haven't gotten the GPSes in stock.
