  • Idiot question? How to browse by artist then album?

I'm trying to browse music via artist then via album, but it seems like this is very hard to do without selecting all albums by the artist to be added to the playlist. Scenario is: I like band x, i know i have 3 albums by band x, but forget the name of the albums, hence i browse via artist first, would then like to see the list of albums by that artist, and select a single album to play or be added to the playlist. Am I dense here or does it not work this way in SD?

looking at some other threads now, it seems this is by design.

    god_of_cpu. questions:
    1. can this behavior be changed to enable selecting tracks via artist->album->track?
    2. what was the logic / what's the scenario for not implementing this? this is the first media based application that i have used that has ever done this (I've only used WMP, Media Center, Winamp, Road Runner).

    thanks for the help,
    Per

If you organize your folders by artist then album, you can just use browse by folder to achive this. Once we up the SDK, adding features like this will be possible.

Thanks. Is there a timeframe for upping the SDK?

          Priorities are:
Make sure current version is stable
Finish website so you can upload skins / digitalmods
          Release SDK documentation / examples

resurrecting this just for a minute here...i just don't get the logic. are you / the community saying that most people prefer to pick an artist and play every single song by them? that they know every single album by each artist and just pick it's name to play? i just don't get it....why was this decision made to navigate music like this? does everyone else like the way this feature works?

just looking to understand. and i really like the interface for picking music that way...just not the results.

            Thanks,

First, I installed the demo of streetdeck yesterday so i dont know all that it can do.

I, a single member of the community, only layout music that way for cd albums i like. Everything else i dump in one folder and shuffle

I understand what your talking about. It would be nice to only play the songs you want and have a quick way of finding them. And so far group/album/song seems like the quickest way to find a song. Because you dont want to have to scroll through 10,000 mp3's to find one song. Another good way is to setup playlists.

So i feel your pain. If only it could read your mind
