  • a bunch of NAV questions and feedback.

    1. I need a clear example of how to use 'restrict overlays' to enable using certain modules/panels in different places. My current frustration: it's VERY hard to get the map of the destination of where you're going outside of the initial route calculation. I want to be able to access all views from the nav start module. with the default skin, you can cycle through some views, but none that include that mappoint map of start to finish. I want to add a button there to take me directly to the CNavShowRouteModule (this is where the map is) or to the map itself. How can I do this?
    2. How can you alter the cycling through of the NAV views? For instance, the first one (shows long/lat and speedometer) i don't want. Can i get rid of it? can i alter the order of the views presented? can i add new ones?
    3. Alternatively, and taking a piece from CoPilot (which I again encourage SD dev to take concepts from as much as possible as IMHO it's by far the best PCnav product out there :-) ), there should be buttons on the main nav screen, or perhaps the zoom overlay that specify different (dynamic) zoom levels. Examples: 'destination' = zooms so you can see start to finish on the map, 'next turn' = zoom to show you at a level where you can see the next turn. Perhaps better yet: the toggle between 3D and normal view could be extended to include these? What would it take to do this?
    4. It would really be nice if MapPanel would not be locked or at least its size were adjustable. I think the split screen shows too little of the map. I adjusted the background panel (made it smaller) and made the MapPanel bigger, but it won't save the settings for the MapPanel size.

    thanks for the help,

    1. A function is planned to allow you to get to the CNavShowRouteModule. Its not possible to get back to it yet.

    2. You can't get rid of the different views. You can delete controls off of them and add your own controls to them, but if the function to show the overlay they are on is called, it will show them. Alternatively, you could use the CUserOverlays. Put a button some place in the GPS tracking overlay and bind it to the function to show one of hte CUserOverlays. On that user overlay, you can put a button to cover up the one on the GPS tracking overlay and bind that one to show a different CUserOverlay, then just put controls on the user overlays to show the navigation data you want.

    3. This is not really a skinning feature, but I have noted the request.

    4. There are a bunch of limitations around the map panel since you can't efficiently show more then 1 map view at once. The map panel also has to be dynamically resized to accomodate the views. Its not possible to allow you to just resize it since it is dynamically resized, but I can add a system metric that will allow you to specify the size it should be resized to.

thanks much chuck. i'll wait for the new function and see if i can get the overlay to work. can you still clarify the restrict overlay function a bit more? i've seen it mentioned etc. but it doesn't make sense to me. when i go into it in the IDE the window that pops up is the 'import skin' window and i just get to choose from useroverlays. is that expected? perhaps a topic for a video blog or something?

That sounds like a bug, you should only be able to get the import skins dialog by using the command line.

to be sure...i go to "Skin - Overlay Restrictions" and get the following:

On the other hand (not sure if this is by design?) when i go to "Skin - Import Skin Elements" I get prompted to pick a .skn file from one of the skins (explorer comes up to navigate to it).

          Normal? no? I'm running .9.

          Thanks,

chuck - is the above expected behavior or no? I've verified this on my 2 installs...the same on each one. Each running .9

            Thanks,
