  • Ideas for using Mimics

I have all my apps neatly organized in folders on one screen along with a HTC clock widget. The problem I have is that the widget doesn't scale right or display correctly using rotator. Also, in the car there are a handful of useful apps, I don't want to have to gok through all my folders to get to them. What I would like to be able to do, ideally with an sbsettings toggle, is turn on rotator and spring jump to say screen 3(which would be my car screen) when I toggle it on. Then toggle off return to home screen and turn off rotator. Also, I would like to be able to create app shortcuts (not sure if there is a way to do this) that link to the actual app. That way I can just put all the app shortcuts on my car screen instead of the actual app because I want to keep them in the folders they are in on my home screen because I will still use them not in the car. Any ideas or anyone able to do this would be great.

Yes, you clock widget was made for portrait view and not landscape. With the jumping of the springboard, there is a free tweak called "SpringJumps" in cydia that will do this really well. What it does is create an icon with an arrow and a page number on it, and you can also name these icons as well. The "mimics driver" has two actions available in activator called "mimics connected" and "mimics disconnected", you can assign these to anything. The issue at the moment is that actions cannot be multiple, i.e. only one action per gesture at the moment.

In regards to shortcuts, there is "appLinks" but this only works with the appstore apps. What I can suggest is to have all you "InCar" apps on your last springboard page and use "SpringJumps" to get to that page when in "In Car" mode.

I do have springjumps which I was going to use to jump to the "car" screen, it would be nice however to somehow combine activating sbrotator, the jump, and activate mimics all with one icon or toggle in sbsettings. Then by toggling it off jump back home, turn of rotator, and unlink mimics.

OK, I see. You don't need to link and unlink mimics, the "mimics driver" does this automatically when you dock/undock the phone. The only thing missing here is multiple actions triggered from a single gesture.

Mimics has the two triggers and all the actions are already there, all that is needed is some way of having a "list" of actions to perform when an action is performed. This is not possible at this time but I cant see why it cannot be easily implemented. The reason the mimics actions were added were specifically for this reason.

I looked at applinks and it doesn't create shortcuts on springboard; it create links to apps within ifile or ssh is all. You can create shortcuts for webpages on the springboard, if only they could be edited some how to link to apps instead.

Sorry, you can try "applicationDuplicator". You need to run this using a terminal. It basically duplicates the app so you can install another copy of it. I had trouble getting this to work though.

There is another way of duplicating appstore apps HERE, but if you update one you will have to update both!!

So yes, a true link/shortcut to an app will be really useful.

            You can also try this:

I'll look into one of these, however I didn't really want to have to duplicate the app. Having two of the same app takes double the space, but in the mean time I guess this is the only option.

There must be a way of properly linking an app, just haven't figured it out yet! The last link I posted apparently links only the app but copies the original .png and .plist files, so the extra space wont be much. I just cant get it working yet even after modifying the .plist and a respring. If you figure something out, let us know.

                  Have you tried VoiceActivator?

Are there activator actions for springjumps though?

Hmm, no... I see the problem now. There needs to be an action for each individual jump for the mimics action to link to it!

So for now looks like you have to manually click. There is a way of the mimics actually artificially pressing one of the jumps when its connected, but the jump would need to be in a fixed location such as one of the dock icons.

The easiest would be just to press it for the moment... Until the spring jumps developer decides to add actions.

Using VoiceActivator would eliminate the need for spring jumps, re-foldering, shortcuts, etc.

Let's say the program you want to open is on your 4th homescreen and that program is Dragon Go. With VoiceActivator, you program a command named 'dragon' that launches Dragon Go. Then all you have to do is invoke voice control, say the word dragon, and the app launches. And you're done.

Then really the only obstacle is launching VC, which would either be via the home button or via an activator shortcut.

As soon as I'm able to come up with enough money for a module I'm going to start tinkering more. Ideally in the end it would be awesome if whnenen the phone detects the module it jumps to car screen, enables sb rotator, toggles autolock, and locks the orientation. Then when you leave the car everything is reversed. That would be sweet.

There are some "profiles" tweaks that can completely change the mode of your phone that can be triggered using actions, GPS location, time of day etc. Though they don't have all the features included yet for optimal operation.

I am one step closer. I was able to create app shortcuts by using modified webclips. Now the only issue I have is an activator action to be able to jump to a specific page.
