  • Ubuntu Mobile Package

Well I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 for a while now. I found the Ubuntu Mobile package in synaptic-manager. I installed it. So what changed on my system? Desktop seems to be the same. Can I launch some different apps now? Has it anything to do with the mobile stuff on the ubuntu homepage? Sorry for my questions but I'm also new to the linux world. I'm thankful for any help.

to actually use the mobile-ubuntu stuff you'll have to do some hacking to actually see the mobile-ubuntu desktop. Right now you can still use the apps that come with it. I think there is a mobile-ubuntu media player, bluetooth, and other tools. There is a thread in this forum about LinuxICE+hildon which links to some stuff about getting ubuntu-mobile working.

Ok, I found the apps and can run them. But it seems to me that they don't work correctly. F.e. i can start the media player but can not select a file or do anything else. If I press a button nothing happens. So do I have to use the Hildon desktop? The files are installed.

I wouldn't think you would need to be running hildon to get the UM media player to work. I wonder if it's even complete at this point.

I got the hildon desktop to run. But it seems that you are right. The code doesn't seem to be completed right now. I got a video played but no music or other stuff. So we'll have to wait for the final release :-( .
