  • VIA Video Drivers in Fedora

I have an M10000, I finally got it all together and installed Fedora Core 3 on it. Everything went perfectly smooth. All the hardware works as far as I can tell. Right now though I can only do 800X600 resolution with the onboard video card. I assume this will become a problem when i go to use an indash touch screen for the car. am I wrong?

What have you guys done to update the drivers and give me more control on this resolution?

I am a Linux newbie and feel a bit like I am on Mars so I am just trying to work past this first detail.

    Any suggestions?

This is something that I am still avoiding dealing with . The vesa drivers will work for 800x600 but do not work at 800x480 (on my system anyways) The "unichrome" driver is an open source "via" driver but last I heard there wasnt 800x480 support unless you "roll your own".

Has Anyone got their linux system at 800x480 running via chipset yet?
      -pkg

A beta BIOS update is available. This BIOS update adds 800x480 resolution, the native Xenarc resolution! I havnt done it yet, so dont blame me if it hoses your mobo, but i am gonna do this today.

I fought with using the Unichrome graphics for quite some time and as I recall (I didn't make any notes) I got 800x480 working using a driver I compiled from CVS, but my problem was that the S3 wouldn't clock down low enough to use my car's OEM fixed-frequency 15kHz monitor so I ended up using an ATI card that works beautifully at 800x480 (and the pixel clock has a huge range).

Again, as I recall (which is a very grey area in most cases ) the VGA BIOS kept bumping the resolution up to the next closest "common" resolution whenever I tried clocking the S3 down below 20 kps (the documented minimum) so I just gave up and went with the ATI card.

I know that's not most people's case here but I thought I'd leave my 2c...
