  • Need some help with mounting drive as read-only

I know that some writes have to happen on the boot, but how do I mount the drive as read only so I can shut if off without worrying about data loss?

I'm running the current version of Damn Small Linux. It's based off of Knoppix/Debian. I think it's kernel v. is 2.4, I don't know if that matters or not.

Bottom line is I don't know jack about linux, and I can't find any good info on what to do exactly. Most everything I googled expected me to know something about linux. I know jack. If someone could point me in the right direction, that'd would be most awesome. I'm trying to learn...

Does this partition mount at boot, or is manually mounted? if mounted at boot time, look into /etc/fstab and the "ro" (read only) flag.

      It's mounted at boot time.

So just edit your fstab file. Here's the first link from google: http://www.tuxfiles.org/linuxhelp/fstab.html
