  • Engenius/Senao EUB-362 EXT and Mac OS X

Can anyone confirm if the Engenius Wireless USB adaptor is usable with OS X?

I've noticed that my Intel Mac Mini wireless reception is abysmal. In the same spot my G4 Mac Mini picks up 5 or 6 signals and my Intel Mac Mini sometimes fails to find even one. So I want to improve things by adding a good wireless adaptor.

Thanks BugByte - I checked that out myself first. Also the Tech support guys told me that they don't supply a driver but that I may be able to find a third party one. I've emailed them back asking if they know of one but in the meantime I was hoping someone else might know of a 3rd Party driver.

Actually I was hoping that you might know as a MacCar guru but looks like I'll need to hope someone else knows!

Sorry, driver issues are the stickiest to fix.

I hadn't heard of reports that Intel wireless reception wasn't very good, though. Are you sure the antenna is connected properly? If you've had the case open, maybe it got shoved around a little and is covered by the metal shielding or something.

Also, have you tried using something like Kismet to see what networks it is picking up?

As for drivers, if you can identify the chipset used in the device, sometimes you can find generic drivers. That's how I got my GPS to work.

best thing to do is to crack open the unit and see the chipset. If i remember right, Engenius likes the Prism chipset.

Thanks Guys - that's helpful advice. I can see that there are a couple of OS X drivers out there. One, Wireless Driver http://wirelessdriver.sourceforge.net/ , looks promising but it hasn't been updated in a while so may not work under 10.4. Also I am not sure if this one supports only Cards and not USB devices. Does anyone know if they require different protocols - I suspect they do.

Bugbyte - I did open the machine but the antenna connection looks okay maybe I'll recheck it. Can't hurt to try.
