  • OpenMobile Mac Discussion (bringing an opensource FE to the mac community)

As some of you may/may not know openMobile is an open source c# front end originally designed for windows/linux and OSX. Linux and OSX support were dropped in the last build to speed up development but will be making their appearance again in the next version. In working on this we are looking for input from the mac community about what they are looking for in a front end.
    • Are there any osx specific features that would be "necessary" to include?
    • Are there any mac developers looking to help out with the project?
    • Any other input you think would be useful?

I'm making a project like your. Today I've completed the video plugin with gtk and mplayer, the next step will be the port to mac platform. So if you want we can share info.

This is exactly what I had hoped might happen from this post. Yes I would certainly be very interested in sharing info. Were you planning on using .net/mono or objective c? If .net and mono we have a good bit of code that you could probably make use of if your willing to make it GPL compatible. We would also love the development help if your interested. Either way i'm sure we could work something out and hopefully the mac community will benefit.

I use only ms.net or mono framework, I don't know ObjC. I don't realease the core of frontend with GP license because in the past I've developed another carputer fe but italian carputer comunity (I live in Italy) don't support me, but I realease some frontend plugin with GPL license. What kind of plugin have you build for Mac ? I'm planing a Linux port too, but I-ve problem with case sensitive FS, How do you solve this problem ?

That is good news! We made sure everything is done case sensitively so it works on any file system. The only code we need specific to a mac or linux OS is the media player and hal interface (hardware interface service). The media player will need to be done as a plugin while the hardware interface service is a separate application that communicates over a local UDP connection.

I've strat the port of GTK plugin of Mplayer on Mac OS. I can't understand how obtain a true value for the -wid option of MPlayer on OS X. The player run well but don't embed video in plugin window (in windows works, use object handle I dont know if mac have a value like this).

The second image is the final result on Windows. On Win there are 3 version of video player plugin: one with directx and 2 with mplayer, one run in winform and one on GTK
