  • Who's got handsfree up and running?

I've been wanting to do this since I got my mac mini installed! I purchased BluePhoneElite (BPE) but haven't really played around with it that much. I hear its the best available solution for Mac...

What kind of microphone are you using?
    How do you prevent feedback?
    Can the caller hear themselves?

What else should I be concerned with?

My set up does not involve a mac but I thought I could point you in the right direction for at least one of your questions. Check out this thread over at the flux forums. Echo is probably going to be your biggest challenged once you get the software side (ie bt connection etc) worked out. I struggled with echo for a long time and did a lot of research on software echo cancellation. At the end of it all the best solution hands downs was the phoenix soho card mentioned in that link. As you read through you'll notice the solution results in an external box enclosure which basically processes the audio to get rid of the echo. My solution uses the soho and the andrea mic.

Word of caution... don't complain about the price (as many do)... sometimes the best solutions come at a cost.

      Thnx

I would say cost is less important than my overall ease of use and quality of experience. I also like the phx solo but the major downside is that I would have to split the line level audio AGAIN! I haven't heard too much about
people doing the PCI card-in-a-box solution but that may be the optimal solution to preserve the overall audio quality.

      Thanks

I use the blue usb microphone with built-in video camera for communications. I tend the set the volume to a barely audible level so that no one truly complains of feedback. I haven't had one complaint... as yet.

I have hands free working pretty well with CF3.1 and my iPhone. There is a small echo issue and sometimes some distance voice sounds on the other end but from in the car it works great on my side.

Sorry, didn't see it as a Mac thread until now.

On mac I have not find anything for hfp to use in car. But there is a good pythoin wrapper for bluetooth and apple sdk have some example with bt in objC.

For CF 3 try a software to reduce echo like Solical, is free.

So, I finally got around to reading all 26 pages of this thread. Really nice job by all the folks over there and I bought my SOHO card right now.

I still have the software side of this to setup which sounds like the more complicated piece to be honest.

I'm going to be using the Carnetix P5V to power the SOHO card and an external USB.

Crossing my fingers for no static noise after the install. It doesn't sound like too many people are interested (maybe they have adequate setups already) but I'll post pics etc as I get it set up and tested. I'll try to do a better job than the actual CarMac install...

No one on the thread prodigalsun posted made any mention of it. I haven't searched Mp3Car though.

I'd like to hear from people using BluePhone Elite with an iPhone. The note on their website about the bug in the implementation of Bluetooth has kept me from buying it. Has anyone had good/bad experience with BPE and iPhone?

                      golfguy,

This is what I plan to do. What bug are you referring to?

See here. It appears that it may be resolved as of the end of March. I hadn't checked back in a while, I may have to give this a go.

So i was given a quote of $150 for small orders (im getting one shipped a bit lower because they had NO idea people were using the SOHO cards this way and i pointed em at the info)

their including a pinout, soo, I'll see if i can just integrate this thing into my case somehow and adapt it through the internal audio headers. (wouldn't that be nice?)

Good to hear. Once you can get clean power I'm sure you won't have any problems. You know the sound card does not need a Carnetix P5V type power, right? Some even utilize power from one of the USB ports and have reported success. Just a suggestion to save you some $.

That's probably because it's a recent offering and that flux thread is about 2 years old now. Assuming it's the same chipset etc as the PCI card I don't see any difference. To be honest most of the space on the PCI card is wasted space anyway. Also as you can tell from that flux thread the thing is only plugged in the PCI slot for power, nothing else.
