  • Really SurprisD On Mac Media Front Ends

Really surprised no one has a complete finished Media Interface for a mac. See a lot of in progress stuff.

For an OS that is "Open" I would figure some one would already have a Media Interface that would launch embedded Quicktime, Itunes, Mac XM and or your choice of external apps. in an embedded window within the Interface.

For being such a media friendly Computer it is surprising it does not exist.

Or have I just not googled hard enough?

idash. no seriously, its being worked on. Basic movie playing support is done. Just found out that BugByte has an xm direct module, so he's going to be testing out our macxm module, and eventually our plugin which has full support for XM, like looking at what's on every channel.

It's only recently been given serious consideration as a platform, since the advent of the mini-mac.. give it some time! =)

It's easy to build a front end that has nice big buttons on it that plays iTunes. Actually, it's trivial. Stuff like this:

          Tell Application "iTunes"
          Play
          End Tell

You can guess how to program "next track", etc.

However, tying all of this together into an app that has multiple buttons, interface controls and does fancier stuff like let you access your playlists and tracks via that interface does take a lot more dicking around with. Add on top of that the fact that most of us don't actually know how to program the Mac and are learning while doing this and it's gonna take some time.

          But we will get there.

In the meantime if you want a bare bones app that plays your iTunes I can code one up really quick for you. But you won't find it very useful.

And some of us are already familiar with programming on a Mac, but have been down and out with a cold for more than a week =/

I just got my *** kicked by a cold, but am slowly 'returning to duty' here. =)

I think its friggen hilarious that since ive been a member all I asked for was a mac front end and all I got was flames and the ol "macs to much $$$, no one make software for a carputer niche that doesnt exist"

NOw with the mac mini, everyone seems to think they can. SO progress is good but dont expect **** to be finished so fast wen NO ONE was doing ANYTHING of value before. And if they were, they didnt tell me.

Well, nobody is laughing now:-) Both PCs and Macs are in a touch niche market for the car, with Macs being a way smaller one. Linux is probably just as bad as a hard time as us cause of the many flavors of hardware AND software out there.

Only through community and innovation like several of us are doing now with various projects will we finally reach what the PC guys have been enjoying for a while:-) Glad to see you are still along for the ride.
