    Hi, new to the forums.

I currently run my ipod with any interface for my factory head unit. It charges and transmits a continuous line out signal using the head unit's aux input. I like this setup. Mainly, because no matter what the volume reads on the ipod it doesn't effect actual output. Know what I am saying. My head unit's volume control is the only adjustment needed. BUT, the only way I see possible to run audio from the mac mini to the head unit is with a Y-cable into the head unit (or another similar device).

So...for those w/ a mac mini installed. How have you rigged it? Do you have any problems with adjusting volume on the mini and the headunit?

    Any responses are much appreciated.

The iPod's volume control only affects the headphone output. If you're running it though the line out from the bottom of the iPod, the volume control doesn't do anything.

Mac Mini works fine. The volume control on that affects output.

      hi, thanks for the response.

yes, i understand how it all works.

but, i am curious as to how it sounds. for instance, if you put a cd into your player, you control the volume with your player's knob or button. not the cd itself. the cd is the source of audio, etc. so, for running the mac mini (source as a whole)...is there a way to have the same type of line output as the ipod's with no need for adjusting volume within? the only way i see is to keep the mini's volume at 100%...am i hot or cold? if i am missing something very obvious here, please yell at me.

      thanks again.

Nope. The only way to keep the Mini's volume at a constant level is to not change the volume.
