  • XM Radio for the Mac??

I'd like to see someone develop an XM PCR or XM Direct front end for the Mac mini. This is about the only application that I use consistently in my current config (C134 PC). I would love to see it available for the Mmini. I believe this would pull a lot of PC users over to the Mac side... There are several very good GUIs to use as models (ie FrodoPlayer).

    Any takers?

        There is an interface.....

        and it's located here.

        Is MacXM AppleScriptable?
Yes! As of 1.3, you can control MacXM via scripts. The grammar is a bit limited at the moment, but it is sufficient to change the channel and find out what is currently playing. Some example scripts:

        tell application "MacXM"
        set channel number to 48
        end tell

        tell application "MacXM"
        get channel name
        get channel genre
        get current song title
        get current artist
        end tell

If you want to make an XM alarm clock, use the AppleScript editor, write the top script (the one to change the channel), then save it as run-only, as an application. Then you can use crontab (from the terminal) to schedule the newly created application to run whenever you like. Merely telling MacXM to change the channel is sufficient to launch it and power on the radio (so long as the XM PCR is plugged in).

Well its open source so thats a plus. But its written in Java so it will take some additional time for my to port into my app. Anyone want to do it for me :P objective-

But this will defiantly probably most likely be incorporated into my front end. I like xm radio, can any one say xm ripper? shhh you didn't hear that

They are available on eBay, but XM is not making them for retail sale any longer.

Yep, I just read an article about that. Seems that someone had the ripping idea long before I. Well it should be fun trying to find one for my self then.

You don't need a XMPCR, an XM direct will work fine.
Just send the magic byte codes at start. Then it is exactly
                    the same as a PCR.
