  • Mac Mini placement considerations in a Boxster

The Boxster is kind of tight on interior room. We wanted to try out a few different placement ideas before deciding. Right now, we are considering the front trunk... mostly for security and future expansion: video server, 10 Mac mini xGrid distributed computing cluster, the usual stuff :-)

    Anyway... check it out here:

What's wrong with the second slot in from the bottom of the center console, just in line with the top of the shifter?

Good question. We went out to try it out. As you can see..it fits perfectly (see updated pic). The main concern was accessing the ports in the back and making sure the connectors do not vibrate loose over time. Of course, we would add firewire and usb hubs if we decide to go this way.

Cable access could be a problem if you don't have enough depth. Depending on your anticipated level of effort, you could build a "dock" for it as I am doing: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=50583

OTOH, I'm not certain its going to work, so its just a suggestion.

Also, if you decide to put it in the trunk, don't worry about cable lengths. My current PC is in the trunk with extension cords for VGA, USB, serial, audio and it all works just fine over about a 20 foot distance.
