I'm looking to get involved in one of these projects and help out however I can. If you need something (I primarily work in Graphics and Web Design) but am willing to help out however I can. Let me know.

there have been many applescript frontends that have come and gone on here, Itunes is the easy part I won't be impressed untill I see DVD and nav, but goodluck, I like the fact tht its skinnable and you can still use the visualizer. I am wondering about how long it tkes to load your library that has been the biggest problem with itunes via applescript but hey you might be the lucky one to finally make it work!

If I were to get dimensions and some pictures and what not, I would love to help out. I'm thinking this is going to be my primary place where I will be going to get answers for my install on a 2002 Audi S4, so if I'm going to be plucking peoples brains on here, I'd love to do up some skins to give back to the community. If I get specifics on image sizes and what you want it to look like, it would be cake for me to do it.

I just want to help out the front end which is going to work. I would really like to see one actually *work*. 100%.

bcohen5055 hit it right on the money. There have been a lot of applescript frontends that people have started and fizzled out. I will say that'd I'd like to not fizzle out, but I give no promises.

My primary goal with this is to learn applescript for quickly making user interfaces for work (I do research).

DVD shouldn't be that difficult to do. I have yet to look into the apple DVD player applescript dictionary though. Putting a DVD in the drive starts the DVD player prog...so the script might have to capture that and change the default screen size settings. There is probably more to this than meets the eye.

Nav is a big one. I'm interested in the post made here about new nav support for macs. I also saw somewhere that a guy was using google earth (in windows) and wrote a short prog that constantly updated a kml file to plot his location on google earth. You could get around the need for an internet connection by having a huge cache filled with imagery from the regions you are traveling in (not sure if this is possible or not).

What I find great about the applescript idea is that there could be a couple different front ends that various people create and a couple different frontends for apps. The end user would then, just have to point their front end at the scripts for the apps they use. This would, in essence allow any user to make a custom suite to fit their needs.

Maybe what we really need is a repository of applescripts like this...one part with main menu front ends and the other with interfaces for things like itunes and nav. We would also need some sort of standard to allow for certain events like leaving itunes playing and returning to the main menu.

Like I said, all I need are dimensions and what not and we could come up with a workable set. But I would like to put the skin and my time into a project that will be workable.

                    But hey, I'm willing.

                      agreed...

keep sending me ideas and pictures and features you want...or keep posting them here. I'm not at a point where I want to waste anyone else's time with skins or code. When I get there I'll start a new thread.

Estimated time till I have something workable for you to test...2-3 months...maybe more if we (my wife and I) decide to move.

The one unique one i've always wanted is to have it so when i'm in shuffle mode i can switch to randomize only within the album i'm in or artist i'm in. I think i can do it by passing the artist string to the itunes search box. Try it for yourself in itunes...start itunes put it in random...then type an artist name in the search box and search...it'll stay in random but only within that artist.

Perhaps my goal should be to write an itunes interface script almost all the way...like to a beta stage and see what people think...then expand to do the main menu and the other scripts...what do people think of that idea?

^ sounds like a good idea

would you guys like the date and time in the other scripts (like the itunes interface) as well?

Currently i'm focusing on the itunes interface (as i stated before)
