  • what are you actually using?

so there's a lot of talk about different front ends and different ways of using your in-car mac, but what are people actually doing? i've been using front row, but it's really ****ing me off... i'm on the brink of dumping the whole thing and just getting a standard HU, and i fear i'll have to do it if i can't come up with a solution to please my girlfriend.

What problems are you having with Front Row?

i'm getting scores of "cannot communicate with itunes" errors, it will often freeze up and become unresponsive for up to 45 seconds, which is a real pain in the *** when the phone is ringing and you're trying to change the volume, it takes forever to scroll through any significant list (i have over 70 gigs of music)

What processor and how much physical memory you have? The “freezing” wouldn’t surprise me at all with maximum of 1.42 GHz processor and 1GB of memory. It looks like Front Row itself needs quite a bit of memory to run.

Is there any other music program besides ITunes that I can use (never used a Mac before)...

I hate how ITunes works, and how it reorganizes my hard drive!

For 1 you can tell itunes not to orgonize your music folder. Also you might wan't to have a look around at http://www.versiontracker.com that should have some other mp3player if you really can't stand itunes

So, am I to take it by the lack of actual responses (1, I believe) to the question, that nobody is actually using a mac carputer?

I am trying to come up with a usable interface, here.

front row is very slow. try media central. it is a much quicker but only works with music, i couldn't get videos to work.

Don't have my MAC installed yet, but so far the only thing I have running is Front Row. Seen some other but they all seem incomplete as far as features so I will just wait till somthing comes out in the next year or two hopefully.
