  • Gathering Parts for my Install

I have a couple questions for those of you that have already installed. I have read the forums for the past couple days catching up but just tonight as I was driving home I was wondering... Is there a setting on the screens to dim other than adjusting the brightness each evening. I know my HU has a dim button with 3 levels so when it's dark, I dim it and light I "un-dim" it. Just wondering if this is a standard feature on the touch screens.

Thank you for all your work and info your giving to the entire community. Believe it or not, I thought that I thought the whole Mac Mini in my car thing up on my own. I was sitting at work, had the idea and told my buddy who loved the idea. I get home and found this site to see I am not alone! I currently have my iPod installed in my car and have for the my past two vehicles. I cannot wait to have a Mac Mini w/ Front Row going!

Sorry for the lenghty post, it's my first and hopefully my last one of this size 0l33l

    Echonul,

There is gamma control software which can be run that enables the screen to be dimmed. Some of the software frontends have a button you can push which allows you to manually toggle the brightess. These software buttons ase still using gamma control to provide the dimming function.

I'm not a mac guy so I don't know if there is gamma control software which can run in the background on the mac and change settings based upon time of day or not.

I bet someone could make or there could already exist a USB based device that sensed brightness and could adjust the screen automatically. Now that would be handy.

Another question, what do most people do when they get out of their car? Shutdown everytime?

          echonull,

You should spend a couple of hours reading these forums to get yourself up to speed. I'll give you a hint to where you'll find the answer to your question. Look in the power supplies forum.

Haven't been there myself, but poke around here for the Carnetix 1900. If you are using a Mini as your base, that is the answer to all your power supply questions

Go to the FAQ Emporium. Click on the link in my signature to access it. There's a FAQ on how to install a Mac Mini in your car. It discusses the P1900 and the shutdown/sleep issue.
