  • Recording on a mac from usb cameras....

I have a friend, who is considering putting a pc in his car, he has been very impressed with the mini, but his main concern is the ability to be able to HD record from web cam....???

Is this possible, and what do you need to do this, i am very interested in this myself for forward facing and rear facing, so i know i will need 2 cameras at least, but what else is invloved....?

Apple's iSight or any DV cam will work fine. USB webcams can be used with special drivers.

Not that I've ever seen. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist though.
        Failure is not an option....

It's installed by default on every version of Windows.

It is something that would be really cool, also adds to the security side of things if you are involved in any kind of accindent.

I know there are systems out there that do this, i was just after doing it with the equipment i already have if it is at all possible...!

            Hey Workingcars,

Im trying this myself, Ive bought a Fire-i digital firewire cam by Unibrain. You can purchase software from them to do recordings.

You can get them from here for about 85

I don't have a direct answer for you I'm afraid, but thismay help:

you could try mencoder, if you can find a suitable webcam driver. It'll allow you to transcode.

Search for mplayer (mencoder) or VLC perhaps. They both have similar internals.

Did you have a look at EvoCam? It is Apple scriptable, so it may do what you are asking for
