    Hi everyone,

As the developers of ICE3, we thought it was only fair to explain to the MacCar community what we have been working on for the last six months.
However, I don't want to bore you all with a long and drawn out explanation of what we have done and why, So we're just going to show you.

Here it is - ICE Tunes

Let us know what you think.

p.s. I'm working on the website.

Very cool. Does it prevent the screen to lock/go blank if say it's charging?

Looking at the screenshots right now, I disliked the air vent theme, but I mostly dislike "real life" graphics like that one. Like the Apple's compass, etc. I mean, really wood? But I once showed my objections to a friend who had a blackberry and she said wow, that is so pretty...so I don't know. I prefer big buttons in a more minimalistic, all digital style, like Windows Phone 7 (dynamically updated) tiles. I think this is the look.

Also I'm concerned about how do you add and select playlists. Most apps I use now (leechtunes, soundhog, igesture) they have very nice interface while playing music, but a bad one when you want to choose/add more music. Like add more from the same artist, etc. By bad, I mean small fonts, small buttons, not so smart functions/shortcuts.

I also miss a way to launch other apps, like GPS, shazam/soundhog, etc. I heard this is not possible (like on Android with the in car mode thingy), so I don't know.

Just my 02c it looks to be very promising.

Welcome back, guys! Great to see an in car FE for the iPad! Congrats to you!

I've bought the app and am trying it out. It's promising, good move incorporating gestures.

The playlist/artist selection could use some work, but I'm not sure how to help improve it. Other apps use a similar + to add for a playlist, but I find it non-intuitive.

I like the touch-hold to switch screens. Clever way to do it. Some may want to assign their own gestures, so maybe future versions could allow user configuration.

The gauges are cool, but a click on them could perhaps change them to speedometer based on gps? And where the album art is could tap to reveal a Google map?

Just some suggestions. Good job, guys!

Thanks guys, that's exactly the type of feedback I'm after.

Keep in mind that version 1 has only been designed as a safer way to listen to your music library.
Unfortunately, editing your personal music collection while driving was not high on the feature priority list. Wait,.. it's not on the list at all.
On a serious note, Apple does not give write access to the media database, so any playlist would be an ICE Tunes only playlist which will contain references to audio tracks which may not exist after the next sync with iTunes. In my opinion, that's not acceptable. So for now, sitting at your desk in front of iTunes, or on the couch using iPod is the best way (and it ensures that your "Driving" playlist is also available to be synced with your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPod Nano, Apple TV, etc... )

p.s. Based on your suggestions, I'm certain you will both enjoy what I have planned for future releases.

          Thanks again.

No. We removed that just prior to release because we thought it was the cause of a rather nasty bug. Disabling the Auto-Lock will be back in the next update.

Pause/auto resume of playback upon change of power state would be very nice to have as well. It would make the system much more like a headunit.

I don't have an iPad yet (waiting for v2!). Your app looks good, and I'm really pumped a dev is making an iPad app for music, etc.

                  Again, bravo.

Don't assume we would use it just while actually driving! By the same token, that there won't be a passenger willing to create such playlists.

On a serious note, Apple does not give write access to the media database, so any playlist would be an ICE Tunes only playlist which will contain references to audio tracks which may not exist after the next sync with iTunes. I understand that. But sometimes a playlist is just that, a list with music that's going to be played. Sometimes, specially while driving, we don't really need to save or sync it (although that would be nice). It was just built for the moment.

Scenario: you load one of your playlists X. Then you get to a song where you want more like it, say, from the same artist, or album (great for compilations, specially electronic music). It would be nice to click on a big button (or a gesture) that would be: more from the same (artist, album, genre, year, composer). I'd rather have buttons like these than only a giant 9" album art while music is being played. Or AC vents.

The ability to combine two previously sync'd playlists would be great too. Also the ability to clear all the current playing list.

What about a video playlist? Like for videoclips or cartoons? (i have lots of 3-7 minutes cartoons and I'd like to select a bunch of them for playing).

                    Hope this helps.

p.s. Based on your suggestions, I'm certain you will both enjoy what I have planned for future releases.
Great! Can't wait. Just downloaded it.

                    Thanks for the fantastic app.

Bravo! Good ideas. How about a "Quickmix" button that randomizes tunes from a couple of different playlists or a 'Mo Mix button that does what RipplingHurst said, takes more from that artist or genre and builds a playlist on the fly.

Also (can't remember if it works this way or not) but how about a default random playlist that allows you to just hit play and get going if there is no list loaded?

I presume you are working on internet radio?

Just downloaded this app and love it for making it easier to control the ipad while driving.

                        Some thoughts on improving -

I definately echo that toggling the map view in the cover art area would be awesome.

Also, i am not feeling the fake air vents. I see what you were going for and i like the idea but for the most of us who have ipad in dash, it looks a little off to have our real air vents and then air vents on the screen. I do LOVE the button look and gauges, definately a plus, especially since the night view perfectly matches the color of my factory gauges which is a total home run for me.

Instead of the air vents maybe you could put up like a notification window for pending emails?

I love the dashboard look of this and dont want to lose that but would love to see some other options aside from the vents. I do some freelance photoshop work so if you'd like some assistance, please feel free to reach out to me.

                        AWESOME WORK!!!!!!

I would say that it looks like (based on experience) a jailbroken user could change the "theme" simply by replacing a jpg file in the app's directory... I'll be buying this app as soon as my paycheck gets (auto)deposited. Takes for-freakin-ever...
After a 2 year break, I'm back! There are so many new and familiar faces here!
                          New vehicle, new ideas!

I was thinking further about things to put up on the "dash" during my drive into work today, and i thought it would be nice to add a temperature display, maybe link up to weatherbug, based on location. Or show the days forecast based on a zip code the user enters, considering most people stay within a few miles of their zip codes during normal driving.

Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions.

We have been a little tied up developing a few other apps, (unfortunately only one is related to ICE Tunes) so developing new features has been a little slow.
But please keep the suggestions rolling in, as I will be finalizing the plans for version 2 in the next couple of weeks.

ConstantNRG - I'll PM you regarding possible design work.
