  • Show me your VB interfaces....:D

    Hi,

while seeking on the board i found out that many of you have written their own VB apps /interfaces for their car.

Could you please post pics of your interfaces to give me ideas to make my own and to see whats possible ?
Some good tutz / sources in da net ? (links)

    Thanks

Re: Show me your VB interfaces....

mine aint avail for public consumption yet since -

    A. I am re-coding it to do things better and more efficient
    B. A little hard to anyone else to configure yet
    C. Can't think of a funky name to call it!
    D. Still coding DivX playback support
    E. There was something else I am sure of it?

      Other pictures at my site.

After that big flash/vb thread a while back, it seemed like there were several people who started projects right after that. Wonder what became of most of them.

I'm one of them.... exept that the software i`m doing is far from complete. Progress is also very slow as i'm still in the process of getting my hardware in the car (i have yet to finish the case for my computer and lcd), but once i get the hardware side of my project finished, i`ll get round to finishing the software. I'll post somthing when i get something functional.

                ahh.... actually your incorrect Aaron....

in the case of your system keypad + voice/speech output equals the interface.... - true, its not visual, but its still an interface..

                  I'm one of them folks.

However, as I'm not a developer, I don't have access to dev tools etc, so I'm a little stuck. I was thinking about developing a little database to manage and query playlists, and then building a tool in Indigo Rose or MMB to call MP3 or GPS etc as required. (I bought Indigo Rose for work - w00t!)

This seems to be the best that I'll be able to do with the tools that are available to me. I'd really like to do everything with a single interface, however it seems that I'll have to just try and make it appear to be a single interface instead.

                  C!

My Flash / VB Combo is going slowly at the moment cause i'm doing too much school work!

I've written all the technology for it - it communicates with winamp and passes everything on to the flash front end so you can have an entirely custom player. I've had great fun coding it, but some bits are pretty damn annoying - i rewrote the jump searching about 5 times before i got it to a vaguely acceptable speed and it is still not as quick as winamp. It does some pretty nifty things - passes spectrum analyser values on to flash e.t.c.

When it's available for beta testing I'll let you all know.

Have a look at the attached screen - its quite nice. Its a bit simple at the moment, but the white cube spins round and kinda follows on the mediabox kinda theme

P.S. I'm planning to have some pretty nifty effects like passing speeds onto flash so when you are travelling at twice the speed limit all the text motion blurs and falls off the screen. That should freak you out!

Also, ignore the Loading... text - it is a variable controlled by VB and can show pretty much anything. The whole thing is in flash so it is totally skinnable, but I will include the source for my mediabox flash file.

I'd be interested in seeing that code. Any chance you'd post it here?

By the way, your frontend looks a little *cough* familiar.

Hehe guess I am not very creative in flash and why repeat something when it already looks spot on...

Sure - the whole thing will be open source as soon as I've finished the software. At the moment, everything is in separate projects but as soon as it is all integrated and working I'll release an alpha with sourcecode.

As for the spectrum analyser - it currently sets a range of values which is the height of your spectrum analyser - e.g. 5 bars or 100 bars - it is adjustable through an ini file or the registry! Anyway, it can either collect its spectrum analyser values from the soundcard or from a special "vblink" winamp visualisation plugin

Perhaps someone could help me on a little problem - does anyone know how to control flash through a keypad. I guess i could try and capture the settings through vb, or I could kinda try and use flash itself to capture it.

                        I dunno

                        Cheers Gutter

Your frontend looks good. I don't know why you say you're bad at flash. The nifty spinning world and spectrum analyzer in mine was ripped out of some other flash movie. Like you said, why reinvent the wheel.

I'll look into VBLink. I remember a discussion about it a few weeks ago, but didn't think I wanted it. How foolish I am.

What do you mean by "control flash through a keypad"? You can have flash capture the keystrokes, which is how I do it, or have VB do directly which would be more efficient. The only reason I do it the first way is because when flash detects the keystroke, it can do whatever it needs to do graphically, then tell the backend to do what needs to be done. Talking to VB from Flash is much more functional than vise versa.

That would work wicked cool with the Xenarc touchscreens a few of us are getting. Keep up the good work. I can't wait till the Flash interface is done.
