  • Miles Per Gallon from your line-in jack

The best way to get better mpg is to actually see what works. This is an example of a simple bit of hardware and a java application that can be tweaked to provide distance and fuel consumption stats on any computer with a sound card. I hope you find it useful.

It is definately a work in progress, but I wanted to get a prototype out there for anyone who was able to follow along.

I don't know about bhp, but it could give you hp at the wheels after a bit of figuring. a program listening to the vss can do an automated coast-down test and figure out things like coefficient of drag*frontal area and rolling resistance. If you give it the weight of the vehicle, it could figure out the power based on the change in velocity (might not like hills though).

FYI, My interest (and motivation) in determining power is in locating the most efficient acceleration point, i.e. energy output/fuel input
