  • looking for a audio monitoring/muting utility

I'm looking for a utility that will monitor one of my audio inputs, and when it detects audio, will mute my other audio inputs, also needs to un-mute after the monitored input no longer has audio.

This is so I can have the UHF radio in my boat, connected to my boatPC mic in, mute out the other sound sources and announce over the sound system. Perhaps this could be useful in other scenarios also.

Searching the web, I couldn't find a complete utility, but it did lead me to a development program called MixerPRO by xfx Jumpstart that is an engine of classes and collections that effectively provide an interface to all the sound cards available in the system. So a utility would have to be developed from that, and that is definitely not my cup of tea.

Any help here would be appreciated.

well detecting a level of audio shouldnt be too hard.
actually this is prob not that hard, i wonder if we have to do capture
or maybe access meter info from os

mixerpro is prob outdated, XP only for sure

i dont think we need that, i have my own code for accessing audio devices

tell me more about your audio inputs... what os....

    define your inputs
    -Thanks

      Win7, RideRunner, DFX4,

      Mic in - UHF radio
Line in - Directed HD radio
USB audio mic in - XM Direct

So if audio was detected on mic in, mute Line in and USB mic in.

I guess it would also have to mute the audio from winamp also.

then unmute after 1 second of audio non-detection ?

cake on win7, 1000% better audio system!! then XP

i just did a proof of concept...
im getting meter levels in, just like u see on the volume control thoes dancing bars

        ok, so its basicly

writing a program, that lists all the CAPTURE devices avail, choosing one of them to monitor

        and mute the rest....

from inside this program, we dont have access to winamp directly...
we could send winamp a message to mute

but i see your steering me to a riderunner plug in...

which isnt the same as a program that monitors mic input, and mutes the rest of the inputs... thats all self contained

we could also... creeate the rrsdk, if avail, and send a command though
then u can do what u want with it in rr

not to mention, we need a mute threshold value
        prob make that adjustable...
        -Thanks

crap. imeterinterface only works when capturing audio
guess that makes sense, would be a waste of cpu!
