  • Minicam GPS info embedding on x64?

Hey guys so I've been messing around with the Minicam app from Curious-Tech and have not been able to get the GPS embedding to work. I know Xport is not designed to run on 64 bit systems but is there any other way to get the GPS info embedded onto the video?

Also anyone using a MS LifeCam Studio with this app? What settings are you using? Specifically, the compression settings.

    Thanks!

    OS: MS Windows 7 x64

I have not seen any other add-on 64 bit program that can inject GPS info straight into MiniCam.

The compression settings are not tied to MiniCam but are dependant on one of the 3rd party installed Compression Codecs, some settings change between different codecs. Available frame-rate and resolutions shown in MiniCam are usually set in Registry entries by installed Camera specific SW. Then it comes down to trade offs with how much Disk space you have for the expected running time and when your pre-set overwriting occurs, along with processor type, CPU usage and desired image quality.
Palm sized ainol MiniPC, 8" Transreflective PRO, Win10, Reverse camera, Dual 10HZ GPS RX's for Speed Display & Sat Nav, FM-DAB & Phone Modules, iDrive interface. T-Screen HVAC control, custom microcontrollers, microcode and FE.

Thanks for the reply. I might just install a 32bit version of W7 when I get all my hardware and software setup correctly and working smoothly.

I think you answered my question about the compression settings. I need to install a separate compression codec? Right now I have shark007 codecs with recommended settings. So far every setting I choose, the program doesn't want to record.

Well I just solved both my problems. I kind of feel a bit dumb since they were so easy to resolve. I'm not sure why I couldn't get compression to work initially though. I got the compression to work with ffdshow and got a 1 minute clip in 800x600 mpeg @60fps format from about 850mb to 240mb. CPU only used about 20% As for the GPS embedding, I assumed Xport had to have the port sharing feature active for it relay data to minicam but you don't. So the 64bit driver limitation is only for the GPS com port sharing. I used GPSgate to share the single comport to 2 virtual comports. Centrafuse reads one port and xport the other.

The usual reason that MiniCam wont record (not really a MiniCam problem) is if the codec settings are incorrect for the camera or another problem with the codecs. There are a few MiniCam threads where we discussed Codecs and Microsoft Web cams. In my work-log I have some information on the Codec I currently use. I currently run two MS Webcams recording in HI-DEF to a 500GB Hardened Laptop Drive, quality is superb and paused frames are sharp photograph quality.

Update - After writing the above I read your latest post. I'm running higher resolution than the test recording you made. Correct on MiniCam, I was for a time adding OBD Speed into the overlay using Xport on my 64 Bit system. It's only GPS overlay that is broken in the 64 bit version.
