  • Beta testers: AiPC2

I am going to make a thread for AiPC2 / AIS. Currently, the core is coming along very nicely. I will need some testers soon.

I am currently in the process of finalising the skin colours and button sizes. I would like a few people with touchscreen LCDs to download the file below and tell me if the colours are too dark and if the size of the buttons are too small or just about right. I would hate to go back and redo a chunk of the app just because some of the stuff are not perfect.

This is the first test on the AIS/AiPC V2.

    File: http://www.stars-gazer.com/~ais/

For those of you that want to see what it may look like you can download it and check it out too.

    Thanks

    Lwin

ps. if you can take a picture of the app running on the LCD, I'd be very grateful.

edit: this is more of a core skeleton preview (alpha stage)

If it's stuck, force it. If it breaks it needed replacing anyway

Looks like you have some stuff HardCoded in for the Skins. I don't know if you meant this or not. But When I click anything it says can't find path to: C:\Documents and Settings\lwin\Desktop\AIS_AiPC\skin\default\. I can change this but, didn't know if you knew.

Somehow I managed to type that right in the middle of his quote. Fixed.

I just uploaded a newer version. Same location. Now about 30% of the config can be applied using the config part of the app. What ever you do, do not disable the mouse unless you have touch screen. That is there to show/hide the mouse. Tomorrow, I am going to finish off the config and add the voice command/TTS module to the core. I hope to finish the core by the weekend so that I can start working on the modules. Fun is just starting.

I noticed that some of you are still searching for the older version. The old stable v1 (with partial voice command support) can be found at: http://www.stars-gazer.com/~svxais/

          and click on software tab.

Here is a picture update on the V2. I personally think I can get all of the core application done by this weekend. I need to finish off the rest of the config code, voice command and TTS code and majority of the app is all set.

Same place ^^^^^ Look above ^^^^^ to download the latest update on the beta. I think I can officially call it a Beta now. Just missing a couple of items.

With that in mind, I got some pictures:

The main interface is inspired by the BMW interface running on Linux. More of a partial clone if you will. If you don't like it, you can redo the graphic files and using the config, reface it to what you want.

Now we have the config screen. I will try to make it a little nicer but for now, it's working. Also config is there so that you can show/hide the icons in the status bar on the bottom as well as change the pointers to the apps and change the centre graphic/video in the main menu.

I have not created any modules for this yet but currently you can see WMP running on the core. Its supposed to look like WMP is apart of the AIS interface.

And the same concept with Street Atlas 2k3. It looks pretty good IMO. I have to fix the timing code for this though but you get the idea on how modules are supposed to load.

I will create a new site for AIS/AiPC tomorrow and I have registered this as Open Source Copyleft application. The source will be posted on the site as well for those of you that wants to add to this. But make sure you read the copyleft licence though.

one thign you should do is have a button with a sliding out bar with BIG buttons on it that control your interface. A main problem most people have is accuratley being able to press a button without have to do it multiple times just to activate a function.
Maybe like an autohiding toolbar with a 1 touch unhide?

So the current buttons I have need to be bigger?

                  Seraph:

Are your "modules" just loadable libraries? Meaning that I could write a module in something other than VB?

I enthusiastically applaud your making this open-source. This will let it grow to be much more functional than any of the closed-source alternatives. Thanks!

They are not libs. When I say module, in this case, it is a full app. You can write any add on app in what you want as long as it has a name, and exe to run it. What the core does it run the exe and look at the name of the app and plant it in the core so that the app looks like it's a part of the main code. So a music player is a full blown app of it's own, so is the video player etc. Also because of that, you can run any commercial application of your choice. AIS is more of a shell with pretty looking interface/buttons to arrange things in a more manageable manner in the automotive environment.

                    Hope this helps.

I made a new page for AIS:

                      http://www.stars-gazer.com/~ais/

Source and bin files are uploaded.

That does makes sense. However, it would be nice to be able to write an app that can "fit in" with the rest of the framework. To this end, will there be any sort of library that can be used for skinning, etc.?

Well, try it out. Think of AIS as a shell/interface that will enable you to load any regular application. How does that sound?

Update: I got Text to speech done. Voice Command should be ready by tonight.

Update: TTS can now read the tags (announcements) via statements in the ini file.

                            Day/Night skins are back on.

VR lines are included on ini (I have to put it on the core though and I am looking for someone who can do VR on VB6). I think I can do it. I digged enough help files today.

Clock/Date are now switched via clicking on them.

Future Info: I will get the rest of the sections done. Section1 is 85% done. TTS/VR needed to be finished. Once finished, I can clone it to the other sections.

Section 4 is still where it is and the ini setting control will be updated and finished off. I am looking for a good volume control coder/code. I got some up my sleeves but they are not the greatest.

                            Finally the link: http://www.stars-gazer.com/~ais/

One more: I am going to switch the format of the damn page. Although it's very organized, I have to update 4 different places to list a updated source/binary file. Too much work.

It's all looking good so far. Do you plan to include a dedicated web browser and TV Support?
